Tyler Thomas looking for 2nd Late Model victory at New Smyrna Speedway

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2014)Tyler Thomas of Collinsville, Okla., will be racing for his second victory in the Late Model Pro division Saturday at half-mile New Smyrna Speedway.

The 18-year-old stock car and pavement rookie has been impressive in his previous four starts. Thomas was third in his debut, won in his second race on June 21 and finished second on July 19 and Aug. 9. His scheduled fifth start was rained out on Sept. 6. It has been re-scheduled for Oct. 18 and Thomas will race on Nov. 1 in the finale of his seven-event schedule.

With three races at New Smyrna in the next four weeks, Thomas has the opportunity to build on his experience and strengthen his resume.

Im excited, Thomas said. I think our chances are good to get one or two wins before the end of our Late Model season. Each time we go to New Smyrna, we get better working together and I get more comfortable in the car.

Thomas is a development driver for Florida stock car star Tim Russells team.

The way they approach the races, we try to race ourselves each time, Thomas said. We keep getting the car better and better. Its worked out pretty good. If we keep doing what were doing, everything will work out fine.

Thomas will follow his typical path of testing with the Russell team on Friday and fine tuning the late model in practice on Sunday.

It works for us, he said.
