URSS Sprints Close Out DCRP Season Saturday Night

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (September 26, 2014) – Unpredictable is the word that describes the United Rebel Sprint Series at Dodge City Raceway Park.

And that doesn’t apply just to 2014. It goes back several years now.

The United Rebel Sprint Series will headline Saturday night’s Second Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event at the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park with championships on the line as well for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets. Racing action fires off at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday’s finale marks the fourth and final URSS stop of the year at DCRP. And, in three previous events, three different drivers have reached victory lane.

In fact, in the last eight URSS events at DCRP dating back to 2012, eight different drivers have claimed victory. Jake Bubak, who won in June, is the only driver to repeat in a dozen URSS events at DCRP dating back to 2009.

While defending champ and current points leader Bubak topped the URSS portion of the Steve King Memorial in June, other winners this year have included Zac Taylor in May and then Jared Kern most recently in July.

A few URSS Dodge City Fast Facts entering Saturday’s finale:

Number of 2014 races thus far at DCRP: 3

Number of different winners: 3

Number of drivers to compete in at least one event: 40

Number of drivers to compete in all three previous events: 11 (Zach Blurton, Jake Bubak, Cody Caldwell, Luke Cranston, Brian Herbert, Jeremy Huish, Kris Moore, Steven Richardson, Kaden Taylor, Koby Walters, Jed Werner).

Number of drivers to finish among top ten all in three previous “A” Main events: 3 (Jake Bubak, Luke Cranston, Steven Richardson).

Theoretical top ten URSS point earners at DCRP (based upon DCRP points scale): 1. Jake Bubak 411, 2. (tie) Luke Cranston and Steven Richardson 408, 4. Zach Blurton 380, 5. Brian Herbert 364, 6. Kris Moore 347, 7. Cody Caldwell 330, 8. Jed Werner 316, 9. Koby Walters 307, 10. Kaden Taylor 303.

The last 12 URSS winners at DCRP; Jared Kern (7/25/14), Jake Bubak (6/28/14), Zac Taylor (5/10/14), Zach Blurton (9/28/13), J.D. Johnson (7/26/13), Taylor Velasquez (6/29/13), Brian Herbert (5/11/13), Mike Peters (9/29/12), Jake Bubak (7/27/12), Jeff Radcliffe (10/1/11), Jason Martin (9/30/11), C.J. Johnson (7/4/09).

While Colorado’s Bubak tries to put the finishing touches on a second consecutive URSS National championship in Saturday night’s $1,000 to win season finale, a handful of DCRP track championships are on the line as well.

Austin Allen and Ryan Heger will battle it out for the IMCA Modified title while Matt O’Hair and William Bauer take it down to the final checkered flag in the Thunder Car ranks.

Jeff Kaup, Perry Misner and Jarett Lunow will each likely secure track championship in the IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets, respectively.

Tickets to Saturday’s Second Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event at DCRP are just $15 for adults with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult.

Dodge City Raceway Park is located on the south edge of Dodge City, KS, on US 283, then 0.9 miles west on US 56, then 0.1 miles south. For more information, contact the track at 620-225-3277 or check www.dodgecityraceway.com.
