Back to School Special Saturday at CSP

PEORIA, Ariz. (August 7, 2014) – Action continues at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night with the Allscapes Back to School Special taking place atop the 1/3-mile clay oval near Phoenix.

IMCA Modifieds will headline Saturday’s Allscapes Back to School Special with Pure Stocks, Renegades and X-Mods on the slate as well. Racing action goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Ricky Thornton, Jr., has been on fire in the IMCA Modified ranks at CSP this year with ten wins in 12 events, with six wins in a row entering Saturday’s action.

Thornton, Jr., who charged from 14th to win last year’s Back to School Special event, has built up a 36-point advantage over Cody Center in the track’s championship chase with Steve Stultz another seven points back in third. Ryan Roath and Jason Noll round out the current top five with the rest of the top ten including George Fronsman, Kenny Gill, Clifton Maggard, Bubba Stafford and Nate Warren.

Heating up with the summer, Matt Martinez is trying to get into ‘Thornton’ mode in the Pure Stock with five overall wins thus far in 2014 including the last three times out. Martinez recent hot streak has propelled him to the top of the Pure Stock point charts with a three-point advantage over Chris McCurdy, Jr., with Zack Madrid and Joe Vlasity both within 20 points of the lead as well.

With one win each thus far, Tate Allen and David Harrington enter Saturday’s action tied for the Renegade points lead with Jason Crowe another eight points back in third. Paul O’Connor is the only repeat winner in Renegades, topping the most recent event on July 12 after taking a win during Winter Challenge action.

Bo Partain and Brandon Farrington have split victory honors in a previous pair of X-Mod events.

Tickets for Saturday’s Allscapes Back to School Special are just $15, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
