rebelracewriter
Richter Becomes Sixth Different Mod Winner of The Season at Salina Speedwayby Larry Lowrey Jr.SALINA, Kan. -- Firsts are something to remember. Everyone at some time or another has a first something in their life. First job, first check, first kiss, etc. etc. Jesse Richter will remember his 1st win of the 2014 season in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. The night didnt start out as Richter had planned. A 4th place finish in the 2nd heat didnt give him a lot of hope for the feature. Starting outside the 2nd row for the feature gave him a glimmer of hope and that is all he would need.Richter jumped out to the early lead and looked to have figured out his hot rod. Lap after lap he would stretch the field and stay at the top spot. That was until a late race yellow came out on the speedway. This yellow would give Joe Cleveland and a few others one last chance at taking the top spot from Richter. As the green flag went skyward the move was on as Cleveland made a run off of turn two. Contact between Cleveland and Larry Sutton would slow both cars and thats the only aid that Richter would need in taking the win at the checkers. Richter would become the 6th different Modified Feature Winner this season.Corey Burch would race to a 2nd place finish in his first night running a crate motor, 3rd went to Larry Sutton in a strong effort, Danny Morrison Jr. raced to a hard fought 4th place finish and Joe Cleveland finished out the top 5.Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified Heat Race Winners were Sutton and Shannon Johnson. The BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Feature was another exciting one to the finish that had one driver celebrating a last lap win and another dejected from coming so close to winning for the first time.Daniel Smith got the drop on the competition as he sprinted out into the lead during the early part of the Late Model feature. Daniel has been close to victory lane this season, but he just hasnt gotten over the hump at Salina Speedway. This night looked to be his night.Daniels father, and point leader, Delbert Smith, would sneak by Daniel and take over the lead. A restart on lap number 9 would watch Danield turn the tables on his father and go back into the lead. On lap 13 Daniels night started to sour as smoke began to emerge from his Late Model. On the white flag lap Daniels engine would expire and Delbert was there to take the lead and the win on the night. Delbert, with the win, maintained his points lead and gained his 3rd win of the year. Chris Kratzer would finish in the runner-up spot, 3rd went to Justin Kinderknecht, Jill Roberg turned in a nice run coming in 4th and Kelly Dunn was the big mover of the night going from 13th to 5th.BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Heat Race Winners were Kratzer and Daniel Smith. Its beginning to become old hat for Mike Traskowsky in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock class.Traskowsky is the current points leader in the division and he came into the night with 3 wins on the season. Starting 10th in the feature and with several past feature winners in front of him it didnt look like he could get number 4 on the year this night.Aaron McBride, Tony Slothower and Tommy Fose would move out to the front of this vicious pack. Slothower would win the battle for the top spot early, but McBride was right behind him. The two waged a strong battle at the front of the field for several laps. This went on without anyone noticing Traskowsky working his way to the front. As the top 2 cars battled it out, Traskowsky went by them both on the high side and picked up win #4 for 2014.McBride would win the battle with Slothower for 2nd, 3rd went to Slothower, 4th was Tommy Fose who had to work his way up from the rear after an early yellow and 5th was Terry Blessing.Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock Heat Race Winners were McBride and Slothower.Tyler Frye is a driver in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod division that is making a run for the championship.Frye has been locked up in a battle with Austin Carter during the 2014 and it only seems like its just starting to heat up. After Friday nights feature there is only 1 point separating Carter and Frye in the standings.Jeff Olson and Tyler Post would work over the top spots at the beginning of this one. Post would start to fade as they made it to their first yellow flag of the night.Frye and Carter, who would start the feature side-by-side, came to the front of the field in a hurry and the two would put on a great race for the fans. In the end it would be Frye overpowering Carter for the win. It would be Fryes 3rd win of the season and it closed the gap in the points race.Carter held on to finish 2nd, Daniel Gottschalk blasted his way to 3rd, 4th was Brendan Damon, who started 10th, and Jeff Olson finished with a 5th place run.M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mod Heat Race Winners were Frye and Nate Ginest. The feature event for the Chamucos Night Club Mini Stocks saw one driver flex his muscle.Russell Roberg is sitting 3rd in the points right now and he is 33 points out of the top spot, so right now all he wants to do is win.Stacey Huffman, the points leader, grabbed the early lead on Friday night as Roberg was involved in an early yellow and had to go to the tail of the field. Not a good break with some of the tough competition that was in front of him.It didnt bother Roberg as he marched back up through the field and took the lead and the win on this night. The win total for Roberg this season stands at 4 and at the rate he is going more wins might be on the list. Only time and his competition will tell if he can.Huffman would finish 2nd after starting 8th in the feature, 3rd went to John McNabb, Tracy Montague had a strong race going from 12th to 4th and TeeJay Janousek finished in 5th.Chamucos Night Club Heat Race Winners were Huffman and Roberg. No rest for the weary this season as racing will continue next Friday night Aug. 1!
