NickHolt Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Feger Wins DIRTcar Summer Nationals Thriller at Spoon River Speedway By Jordan Morris CANTON, Ill. - June 18, 2014 - Jason Feger, the 2010 DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion, finally found his way back to a Summer Nationals victory lane Wednesday night, doing so in exciting fashion as he held off Ryan Unzicker to claim the $5,000 checkered flag at Spoon River Speedway. Unzicker started the pole position and looked to be the car to beat early in the 50-lap feature. Unzicker dueled with Feger, who started on the outside of row one, for much of the early laps. Feger, who's also known as The Highside Hustler, used the bottom of the race track to slide in front of Unzicker for the lead on lap 27. Unzicker temporarily slipped back to third as the tour's most recent winner Shannon Babb joined the fight for the lead. Babb mounted several charges at Feger, but was not be able to pass him as he and Unzicker continued to take shots at the leader, sometimes even going three wide. Feger held off all challenges and led the final 23 laps. Feger's victory at Spoon River Speedway becomes the 10th of DIRTcar Summer Nationals career and his first since July 3, 2012. "It feels good to kind of get that monkey off our back," said Feger, of Bloomington, Ill. "We've had some motor issues - just self-inflicted - and other stuff happen, so we needed some money to give to our engine builder and get the tire guy paid off. This definitely helps things a lot." Unzicker, Brady Smith, Babb and Randy Korte rounded out the top five. Heat race winners included Feger, Billy Moyer Jr., Randy Korte and Unzicker. The DIRTcar Summer Nationals continues on Thursday night at Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Ill.
