NickHolt Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars Charge into Charlotte Friday Night - A two-time winner at The Dirt Track in Charlotte last year, Paul McMahan aims to build on his success in Circle K/NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown CONCORD, N.C. — May 20, 2014 — After a Northeast swing that took the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars to Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, the action moves to North Carolina for the Circle K/NOS Energy Drink Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday night. Daryn Pittman dominated in the Northeast, winning four in a row in his Great Clips car, including two at Williams Grove, one at Orange County Speedway and another at New Egypt Speedway. Pittman’s win streak, the longest since Jason Meyers won five in a row during his championship run in 2011, helped Pittman take over the points lead. At The Dirt Track at Charlotte, it is Paul McMahan who is looking forward to repeating his own dominating performance from last season. McMahan piloted his CJB Motorsports car to wins at two of three events at the track in 2013. McMahan said he is not sure why his team clicks so well at the track, but that they always bring a good package to Charlotte. “I’ve always enjoyed running there,” McMahan said. “We won two out of three races there last year. Hopefully we can start off May again starting with another win there.” McMahan, who currently sits fourth in the championship race but is just 68 points out of the lead, said bad luck in the last few events have challenged the team. “We’re competitive every night. We’re right there,” McMahan said. “We just had two mishaps where we got caught up in somebody else’s accidents and that took us out of a couple of races. We have to minimize those and keep plugging away. ... Hopefully, sooner or later things will turn around and we’ll come by one.” ABOUT THE TRACK The Dirt Track at Charlotte is a 4/10-mile oval. The track record of 11.880 seconds at 121.212 mph was established by Jeff Shepard on Oct. 6, 2001.
