Thornton strikes again at Canyon Speedway Park

PEORIA, Ariz. (May 10, 2014) – Ricky Thornton, Jr., continued his mastery of the 3/8-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval by winning the IMCA Modified portion of Saturday night’s Fourth Annual Mother’s Day Race for the Cure.

While Thornton, Jr., bested the Modified ranks, other winners on the night that included more than 100 competitors were John Parmeley in Pure Stocks, Jason Crowe in Renegades, Bo Partain in X-Mods, Tony Martin in Dwarf Cars and Becky Madrid in Lady Stocks.

A dominant force in Winter Challenge action before wins at both the Copper on Dirt and Spring Speed Event, Thornton, Jr., padded his points lead in IMC Modifieds by taking the win from the pole position.

Thornton, Jr., won the Mother’s Day Race for the Cure event for the second year in a row ahead of Cody Center with Mike Strobel, Chris McCurdy, Jr., and Mark Stewart rounding out the top five.

John Parmeley raced from fourth to top the Pure Stock feature with Joe Vlasity racing from 13th to second, falling just one position shy of a second consecutive win. Jeff Stafford was third with Matt Martinez and Zack Madrid in the top five.

Jason Crowe won the Rengade feature from the pole position in front of Joe Peterson and Tate Allen with Bo Partain racing from fifth to top the X-Mod main ahead of Eric Winemiller and Joey McCullough.

After advancing from “B” Main action, Tony Martin raced from 17th for Dwarf Car honors in front of Kevin Cain and David Brodeur while Becky Madrid crossed the stripe first in Lady Stock action ahead of Linda Price and Michelle Madrid.

Next up at Canyon Speedway Park is the Third Annual Salute to Indy two-day show on May 24-25 featuring the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars along with Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, Micro Sprints, AMA Mod Lites and the Dwarf Cars North vs. South Shootout.
