No racing this weekend for USMTS warriors

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa-For one reason or another, all three United States Modified Touring Series events slated for this weekend, May 8-10, have been canceled.

USMTS officials learned on Monday that the Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway was cancelling this Saturday's show as the track's ownership is changing hands but paperwork has not yet been completed plus unsafe track conditions brought on by the unseasonably wet weather.

On Tuesday, officials from the Rice Lake (Wis.) Speedway pulled the plug on Thursday's show citing an unfavorable extended weather forecast.

With Friday's show at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway becoming a solo event, officials from the USMTS and track collectively decided it would be in the best interest of the long-distance traveling drivers and fans to postpone the event there.

"We don't want to compel drivers from New Mexico, Texas and other far-off states to come all the way to Wisconsin for one event," said USMTS president Todd Staley. "We will look for possible alternative dates for this weekend's show, but with a healthy USMTS schedule and most track schedules already in motion, it's probably not going to happen in 2014.

"We apologize to the race fans and drivers that were planning on attending these races. I just hope the weatherman is right as this would have been a couple great shows early in the year."

Up next for the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by Swan Energy will be a four-race stint in the tough S&S Fishing & Rental Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports. The swing kicks off on Wednesday, May 14, at the Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, followed by two first-ever appearances at the Lawton (Okla.) Speedway on Thursday, May 15, and the Longdale (Okla.) Speedway on Friday, May 16. The quadrupleheader wraps up Saturday, May 17, at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.

The kick-off for the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports will be Thursday, May 22, at the Buena Vista Raceway in Ata, Iowa-part of a five-race Memorial Day Weekend tour through Iowa and Southern Minnesota.
