Spencer Gallagher notches runner-up finish in Salem

SALEM, Ind. (April 28, 2014) Certain tracks are circled on a drivers schedule every season. For Spencer Gallagher, Salem (Ind.) Speedway is that track, as the 24-year-old came just one spot short of entering Victory Lane a year ago. History would repeat itself one year later as Gallagher, driver of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet Impala for GMS Racing, finished in the second position in Sundays Federated Auto Parts 200 presented by Crunch N Nutter. Gallagher spent all 202 laps inside the top-10.

This Allegiant Travel Chevrolet was brand new and my guys got it together just in time, said Gallagher. This is a fantastic piece and was something else all day. Im really excited about our day and the things that are to come for this team. Im going to head home and work hard so I can give my guys the win that they deserve. With the cars that they continue to bring to the track, we will have our happy day in Victory Lane. Im sure of it.

Gallagher started the ARCA Racing Series event from the 12th position and in a short 20 laps, the Allegiant Travel Chevrolet moved into the top-five. The Las Vegas, Nevada native consistently recorded lap times faster than the leaders and as the first caution flew on lap 78, Crew Chief Ryan Pickle London called his driver to the attention of the No. 23 GMS Racing pit crew for two right-side tires, a minor air pressure adjustment, and fuel. A fast stop allowed Gallagher to restart from the third position on lap 87.

Over the next 30 laps, Gallagher continued to run inside the top-five and knock on the doors of the leaders. On lap 126, a caution was displayed, slowing the pace of the field and allowing London to call Gallagher to pit road once again for four fresh tires, fuel, air pressure and track bar adjustments. The Allegiant Travel Chevrolet restarted from the fourth position and Gallagher continued to clock steady lap times with reminders from spotter Joey Coulter.

During the final 50 laps, Gallagher passed former ARCA champion Frank Kimmel under green flag conditions to hold the third position when the final caution flag was shown on lap 193. This late race yellow forced the field into a green-white-checkered finish. In the final two laps, Gallagher closed the gap between himself and the eventual race winner Grant Enfinger, but crossed the finish line in the second position. This runner-up finish marked Gallaghers first top-five and second top-10 finish of 2014.

The next event on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule is the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The race starts at 10AM CT, with live television coverage airing on FOX Sports 1. ARCAracing.com will also have live timing and scoring throughout the weekend.
