CAM Racing
MENNUTI WRAPS UP 2004 WITH PURE STOCK WIN By Aaron Ort 10/23 Port Lavaca’s #47 Tony Mennuti wrapped up the 2004 race season with a deciding win over the field of vehicles enduring the chase to the checkered flag finish, obtaining his third championship in four years for the division! The Powder Puff and Mechanic’s races were also held on the clear, quiet night that the wives, friends, and other kin of the regular season driver’s vehicle had to take a chance to get behind the wheel and discover what the fun had been throughout the prior race season! The Pure Stock division was divided up into eight, twenty lap segments held in conjunction with the other races as the drivers of this division had just a few moments between sets to fuel up, cool down, and refresh! Mennuti remained on the lead lap the entire time with early pressure from Inez’s #61 Bob Ort, #95 David Mann of Louise, #53 Carl Woods (Rockport) and #18 Jonathan Arterberry (Victoria). Arterberry left the race early in the third to last segment with mechanical problems, leaving the remaining four to battle out the race for the lead. Mennuti finished ahead of the rest of the pack with a ten length lead over #61 Ort who was spaced just seconds ahead of #95 Mann in third. #53 Woods finished in fourth with just one lap off the pace and lead lap as he was followed behind by #57 Tommy Warner (Victoria) with 135 laps complete. #7x Rory Jordan of Victoria took sixth with 123 laps complete as #71 Amber Mennuti (Port Lavaca) secured seventh with 122. Eighth place went to #18 Arterberry with 104 complete with ninth and tenth places going to two other drivers who had mechanical problems, Port Lavaca’s #75 Shad Casey in 99 complete and #55 Monty Chamberlain of Louise in 80. The Powder Puff races were run in between the segments of the Pure Stock race with #05 Jackie Burnett of Victoria taking the Mini Stock run, #53 Arlene Woods (Rockport) winning the Pure Stock race, and #43 Angie Ort of Inez securing the Hot Stock Trucks. The Street Stock class brought out six feisty felines with #25 Becky Brooks (Inez) piloting her vehicle to the winner's circle as #08 Wanda Kidwell and #27 Betty Luehart did the same in the Super Stock and Limited Late Model divisions, respectively. The mechanics of the several different race vehicles help the driver get his/her vehicle out on the track week after week so it was only viable for them to have just one shot to take it to the 5/16th mile dirt oval for their own personal thrills! The Bomber division witnessed #81 Larry Wagner of Victoria take top honors with #57 T.J. Hooker (Victoria) winning the laps for the Pure Stock division. The Street Stocks brought out the action with six of the divisions top runners allowing their wrench tugger the chance to push the vehicle to the max with Edna’s #47 David Webel taking the win; #43 Rick Hall of Victoria took the checkered in the Hot Stock Trucks. The Super Stock class witnessed Port Lavaca’s #55 Cory Powers secure the win over #12 Koty Graham of El Campo in a re-birth of the rivalry that the two car’s previous drivers had during the 2004 race season. The Limited Late Model division had no mechanic’s "per say" enter into the competition, so two track champions of Michael Harp (Bomber) and Vince Kacir (Super Stock) decided to hop aboard the high flying wheels for a bit of a grudge match with the decision going to #81 Michael Harp! Texana Raceway would like to thank all of those who supported the track this 2004 race season. The ride was bumpy, but the road led us to the end. Stay tuned for any changes for the 2005 race season, and we hope to see and hear from all of you once again. Phone (361) 782 0200 for current events and any weather cancellations. racin4fun
Was a great night at Texana. The people are great. We put another seat in our car so team mates and fans could ride with the driver. They all had a blast and Carl "The Parts Hound Woods" #53 still took 4th. Everyone had a great time. We will leave the seat in for next season lol. "Get in, Sit Down, Shut up and Hold on its going to be a wild ride!!" LOL. Thank you Bob, Staff and other drivers.
