Houston Motorsports Park ready for racing after back-to-back rainouts

Houston, TX (May 14, 2013) - After two race weekend rainouts, and nearly six weeks since the last time the green flag waved at Houston Motorsports Park, drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be on the track Saturday night, May 25, for Fiesta's Fast Blast.

With the NASCAR Fiesta Modifieds, NASCAR BWFS COKE Trucks and NASCAR Stock Cars taking center stage, the night of racing will also treat fans to action in the Ecostock, Legend and Bandolero classes.

“I can't wait to get the drivers and fans back out to Houston Motorsports Park for another night of great racing,” said John Mandabach, vice president and general manager of HMP. “The weather has hit us on back-to-back race weekends, but that is behind us. The track is in great shape and fans should be ready for another exciting night of racing in six different classes.”

With just four points paying events in the books for 2013, the chase for the championships in all three NASCAR classes are tight. And with 12 events still remaining, including several that are double feature nights, anything can happen.

There is a three-way battle at the top of the NASCAR Fiesta Modified class, with Joe Aramendia holding the top spot with 220 points, while Bayley Currey, Ian Webster, Paul White and Larry Schild III are all stalking the three-time track champion.

“Despite Joe's lead, the race for the NASCAR Fiesta Modified championship is far from over,” Mandabach said. “With so many races still to run, no lead is safe out here. You can bet that Bayley, Ian, Paul, Larry and the rest of the drivers in the NASCAR Fiesta Modified class spent the last few weeks coming up with a way to beat Joe for wins and track him down for the 2013 HMP title.”

In the NASCAR BWFS COKE Truck class, Rick Pollaro owns a two-point lead over Zachary Knowles, with Travis Benson just 12 back of the lead, while the NASCAR Stock Cars is a two-man race between points leader David Webster and John Winne.

HMP is a state of the art complex, situated in a park like setting inside Beltway 8, on the North-East side of Houston, only 20 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport.
