Maiden voyages to Killeen and Kennedale, annual trek to Ardmore next on USMTS campaign

KILLEEN, Texas (April 22) – Two first-time venues and a series mainstay are on tap this week as the USMTS Modifieds gear up for a trio of events in the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

The three-day 4s Motorsports Red River Rumble powered by Lecolift will kick off on Thursday, April 25, at the Texas Thunder Speedway in Killeen, Texas, and then on to the Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, on Friday, April 26. The trio of titanic events concludes on Saturday, April 27, with a trip to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.

The “Big Dog Buy-In” will be in effect each night to create a possible $12,000 take-home pay for one driver. Each race pays $2,000 to win, but the Big Dog Buy-In allows any driver to gamble an extra $100 at the time of registration to compete for an extra $2,000 cash for taking the win. In ten points races this season, a gambler has won the main event nine times.

Thursday’s event will mark the first-ever visit to David Good’s Texas Thunder Speedway in the 15-year history of the United States Modified Touring Series, with Limited Mods also joining the program. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps slated for 6:45 and racing at 7 p.m.

The Texas Thunder Speedway is a semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval located 2.2 miles south of US 190 on SR 195, then 1.6 miles west on W. Stan Schlueter Loop. For more information call 254-289-9657 or visit www.texasthunder.com online.

Although Friday’s tilt at the Kennedale Speedway Park will be the first for the USMTS, finding the track should be no problem for most teams as the facility is located just across the street from the now-dormant Cowtown Speedway.

Gates will swing open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7.30 and racing at 8 p.m. Support classes include Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Mod Lites.

The Kennedale Speedway Park is a semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval located 1.7 miles southeast of I-20 on Mansfield Hwy. (exit 442-A), 1.6 miles southwest on New Hope Rd., then 0.3 mile east on Hudson Village Creek Rd. For more information call 817-988-7433 or check out www.raceksp.com on the World Wide Web.

Saturday sees the series’ return to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway where promoter and off-and-on USMTS competitor John Webb is enjoying his sophomore season at the former Lake Country Speedway.

Webb, who purchased the facility in 2011, has made several notable changes to the landscape, including new infield lights, painted buildings, a new concession stand with a bigger kitchen as well as an inside eating area on the spectator side and remolded bathrooms on both the pits and grandstand area.

Rodney Sanders won the most recent event at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway last June. In the four previous USMTS events here, Ryan Gustin and Jason Hughes each have two wins to their credit.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 7 and the first green flag waves at 7:30. Limited Mods and Stock Cars will round out the racing program.

The Southern Oklahoma Speedway is a semi-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located 0.7 mile east of I-35 (exit 29) on US 70, then 1.8 miles south on US 77. For more information call 405-627-1766 or click www.southernoklahomaspeedway.com to visit the track's official website.
