Trey Mitchell Wisconsin Bound for Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile

 

Mooresville, NC (6/5/12) - Unlike the short tracks around the Southeast that measure 5/8ths of a mile and under he has become accustom to over the last few years racing behind the wheel of his #47 super late model; Trey Mitchell will hit the road to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the ASA Midwest Tour Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile. Just as the name implies the flat yet fast track measures a mile in length making it the largest track Mitchell will have competed on.

Both the size of the Badger state facility and the level of competition that is expected to be in attendance presents unique challenges for the twenty-two year old Wimberley, Texas native as he looks forward to competing on the same track that has hosted both NASCAR and Indy Car events over the years. In addition to the challenge of hitting an oversize facility for the first time, Mitchell will face some stiff competition from not only the best super late model regulars in the country, but several NASCAR regulars including Matt Kenseth, David Ragan, Rusty Wallace, and Aric Almirola just to name a few.

 

“It’s exciting knowing that you’re going to get to race against some of the same guys that raced just two days before in their cup car Pocono. At the same time once you’re behind the wheel of your car there just another driver you need to beat out on the race track. I know competition wise this has to be closely compared to the Snowball Derby down in Pensacola, so for me it’s an opportunity to really showcase what we can do as a race team,” said Mitchell. “I’m sure there are a lot of people in Wisconsin that don’t know who Trey Mitchell is, but my goal at the end 150 laps is that they all will.”

 

While the glitz and the glamour of the event with big names the main point of focus for some, Mitchell’s focus has been on the performance side of things. Several different things become a dactor as far as prepping a car to race at a mile oval where aerodynamics become a huge factor. Much like the NASCAR stars do at Daytona and Talladega, drafting will be a primary point of performance for drivers. Luckily enough for Mitchell he has crew chief Gary Crooks on his side that will be leading him into uncharted waters. Crooks has spent time in the wind tunnel with a super late model as recently as this spring and knows the effects of air at a track the size of Milwaukee.

 

“It has really come in handy to have Gary on our side this week getting our car ready for Milwaukee. He has raced there several times in the past with a few other drivers and he knows what to expect after doing some testing in the wind tunnel this off season,” stated Trey. “I’ve never raced the place, but everything I’ve heard drafting down the long straight-aways will be key. That’s another part of the race I’m looking forward to doing. I know I’ll be doing a lot of learning, but with all the tools we have in our arsenal we should be just fine. I just hope the driver is on top of his game!”

 

The ASA Midwest Tour Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at the Milwaukee Mile speedway located in West Allis, Wisconsin gets underway with an afternoon practice session on Monday June 11th. The following the day a short practice gets underway at 9am proceeded by qualifying at 1pm. At 7pm the Howie Lettow Memorial 150 goes green for 150 miles of super late model racing.
