What a (expletive deleted)joke!

....and before you jump my, you know what, I know teams do it all the time....INTERNALLY...not by proxy....and it's still a joke....People work their butts off to try to make the race(s), while other are handed it on a silver platter....Gee you think maybe they need a ratings boost?.....What's next?.....a car for Jillian Michaels too?

Mr France is rolling over in his grave.......

I can't help but think this may not end well... If she earns spot and hurts someone/herself nobody is really held directly responsible... But since she is guaranteed spot if she does it it's all on NASCAR! however I hope this doesn't happen and I really applaud her progression I don't think she is ready for this

Not to sound like I actually agree with it, but I thought she already had a secured ride by using Stewart's top 35 and Stewart would use a champions provisional. And another thing, she is scheduled for ten races when she should run 7 and go for rookie of the year. That's what I would do. But that would make too much sense.

The way of doing business in Nascar like they did in 1970 is over. This alliance is a win for the sport. This will attract more fans than it runs off. It is already working because people are talking about it. TBR will get technical support and a few bucks from one of the Elite Teams in Nascar. Buying points has been going on for a long time. I dont care if she looks like Eddie Munster in race trim, she is bringing the sport a shot in the arm.

For the 26 races where Patrick is not scheduled to drive, David Reutimann will pilot the No. 10 car. TBR has sponsorship inventory available for these 26 races.

There is your answer. Sounds like they didn't have sponsorship for Reutimann. It's all biz

TALKING ABOUT IS ONE THING ..ACTUALLY WATCHING THE RACES AND LOADING THE STANDS IS ANOTHER ...BRINGING IN A NAME DRIVER LIKE HER ISN'T GOING TO SOLVE NASCAR'S LOW NUMBERS...MAY AND WILL HELP ALITTLE ..I AN NOT AGAINST HER RACING IN NASCAR ...THE BIGGEST BOOST NASCAR COULD DO .IS GET BACK TO WHAT BROUGHT EM THIS FAR ..WHAT MADE NASCAR ..WHAT BOTH BRIAN'S DAD AND GRAND FATHER WORKED HARD TO BUILD .......TO ME WE HAVE ARCA CARS NOW ..THEIR IS A LONG LIST OF WHY I THINK THAT WAY .......

My problem with this is that NASCAR and the team owners are not thinking long term. She may put a few people in the stands and bring a few more to watch NASCAR on TV that didn't watch before, but unless she is blazing good out of the box I doubt they will hang around. I hope she does well, for women in the sport. However, I also have a problem with her Go Daddy commercials and the obvious sexual innuendo. I have daughters that watch NASCAR and see these commercials and I am appalled that a female racing role model chooses to take part in sexually suggestive commercials. So much for the family values that NASCAR likes to brag about.

It is the short term thinking on NASCAR and the team owners part that is killing NASCAR. The "Buy a Ride" drivers are also killing the sport. The team owners would rather take the money some rich Daddy can pay them and put a substandard driver in a car then look for real talent. Subsequently, over the last few years the talent level has dropped and their are only a few drivers that can even hold a candle to the drivers of old. We heard last weekend the Childress Racing approached an up and coming driver and offered to put him in an ARCA car if they would write a check to Childress for $3 million dollars. At this rate there will be no more Earnhardts and Stewarts who had no money but were skilled enough to make it on their talent. NASCAR and the owners forget that the drivers who make it on talent are the ones who put people in the stands because they are so exciting to watch. In the future, the way the teams are selling rides, there will only be unskilled rich kids and women like Danica who has built up enough power behind her name that she can go were she wants regardless of how good a racer she is in a stock car.

MY POINT MADE ..WELL SAID ..CHILDRESS ASKING A DRIVER TO WRITE A CHECK THAT LARGE IN ORDER TO GIVE THAT DRIVER A CHANCE .IS FUNNY ......BUT PROBABLY TRUE..

"NASCAR"...was built on the back of the "stock car fan"...and have thrown that fan base to the side...

Save NASCAR by franchising the sport and make it mandatory to come up through the ranks.(not just by time served but by success achieved)...i.e...Colt James and Casey Smith would be closer to the top than many who are already there.

Those two examples may not be able to bring a big sponsor and 3 million dollars to an owner but the "stock car fan" doesn't care what owner gets those. We care about being able to follow and identify with a driver as he or she climbs the ranks.

The quick gained fan is also the quick lost fan.Slowly built interest is solid and takes a lot longer to dissolve.Maybe that is why so many of us can complain over and over again yet we still watch what we don't like as much as we used to once upon a time.Maybe we hang on to a sliver of hope that what can never be again will at least show glimpses of what it once was.

Thank you Amy!!!

This is why I'll always be a fan of all the ASA drivers that I watched/helped while growing up in the midwest...

Brian France quote: "...the business of Nascar..." "...this is a business..." "...my grandfather started this business...". Now, if you read closely, you see that Nascar is a business, not a sport. Its about $$$ not competition. If you believe anything different, you will be very disappointed.

If I get this straight - she should not be able to do what others have done and will continue to do - that is utilize the employers owners points to make the field.

Why not? Because she's a girl? She has to play by a different set of rules than the boys do? NASCAR has to treat her differently? not sure I understand the uproar...

not sure I understand the uproar

In my original post I stated that I didn't endorse the process when it's being done internally either....In this case it's being done by proxy...But then I'm old school and didn't like the whole "top 35" thing from day one....It's crappola!

Drivers(male/female/alien/other) should have to EARN spots in qualifying....not be given spots simply because of where they are in the points....or worse yet in this scenario...where someone else was in points last year....or how much sponsorship money they bring to the table...

What's the point of qualifying then?....Why not just line them up by 'draw' or post mark or whomever is greasing Brian's palm, under the table, the most....

Just because she brings tons of cash with her, or sexy GoDaddy commercials doesn't make her qualified or deserving of a spot....If she can do it, on her own, by qualifying/racing her way in, more power to her....
