Hood takes opening round victory in Winter Challenge at Canyon Speedway Park.

 

PEORIA, Ariz. (January 27, 2012) – Larry Hood took the opening round of the Winter Challenge Series and picked up $1000 for his IMCA Modified victory. Following Hood to the checkers were Chris Abelson, Garrett Funk, Dylan Smith and Phil Penney rounding out the top 5. Defending Winter Challenge Series Champion Tim Ward finished sixth.

 

IMCA Modifieds venture to the 3/8-mile clay oval at Peoria for $1,000 to win features on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 27-29, Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.

 

Wrapping up the tour are Friday and Saturday, Feb., 10-11 Winter Nationals programs at Cocopah, just outside Yuma in Somerton. The opening night feature pays $750 to win while the top prize is a hefty $3,000 on night two.

 

All six races at Canyon and the Saturday feature at Cocopah are qualifying events for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
