rebelracewriter
Dates announced for 2012 Texas Lone Star Series ABILENE, Texas (Jan. 20) – Nine dates for IMCA Modifieds and Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMods, and seven shows for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks make up the 2012 Texas Lone Star Series schedule. All four divisions see series action Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26, on the second and third nights of the Ice Breaker special at Abilene Speedway; Sunday, March 11 on the second night of the Spring Kick-Off special at Kennedale Speedway Park; Sunday, March 25 at 281 Speedway in Stephenville during the Spring Fling special; Sunday, April 15 at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie; Sunday, May 27 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco; and Sunday, July 1 at Texas Thunder Speedway in Killeen. Stock Car and Hobby Stock champions will be crowned following the Killeen contest. The Modifieds and Southern SportMods wrap up their respective point battles on Sunday, July 8 at Grayson County Speedway in Bells and Sunday, Sept. 30 at 85 Speedway in Ennis. The Feb. 24 program at Abilene will not be part of the series. “When we initially announced dates for the Lone Star Series, we were unaware that several races conflicted with weekly events. We apologize for that,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “This revised schedule eliminates those conflicts and should also make it easier for more drivers to attend all series events.” Modified drivers will vie for shares of a $3,000 point fund, which includes a $600 championship share. Stock Car, Hobby Stock and SportMod series champions earn $250 of their $1,000 point funds. Series champions also become eligible to compete in their respective race of champions during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Cenex or the Southern SportMod Nationals. Selby Holder, a local track tech inspector at Heart O’ Texas and at Texas Thunder, has been named series tech inspector and will attend all tour events in 2012.
