Breeding wins the horsepower battle for win at Cardinal.

Is it going to rain out or not? That was the question. With heavy rains all day long in southeastern New Mexico and West Texas, the surrounding areas were under flood watches, but Eunice was just lightly rained on and the track was moist and tacky.

Twenty-one IMCA Modifieds chanced the weather and made the pull to the track. #82 Charlie Iker and #14 Jim Pierce paced the field to green with #10 Shane Gray making a daring dive low under the #14 car on the start, to get a shot at the lead on turn one, but #14 Jim Pierce held on to lead the lap, but #10 Shane Gray took the high grove to the lead on lap five. #21 Jimmy Breeding, #8 Ken Couch, and #86 Brian Flowers were making an incredible charge to the front in the opening laps as well. With the lap car #78 Jerry Foster in his Zebra painted car hanging on to his lead lap a red flag is waved to get a spun car off the track , and the zebra car gets to restart behind the leader, giving him a chance at his lap back, But #8 Ken Couch and #21 Jimmy Breeding were past #78 quickly and going after #10 Shane Gray who has opened up a lead.

#16 Bob Sikes causes a red flag when he gets high centered on the top of turns one and two and has to require help to get off. The restart finds #21 Jimmy Breeding behind #10 Shane Gray and it looked like it was going to be a battle of the money motors on a heavy tacky track. But #10 Shane Gray broke on the restart handing the lead to #21 Jimmy Breeding and bringing out the third and final restart. The check up caused by Grays misfortune allowed #85 Neal Flowers to power past several cars and find himself in the top five for the first time tonight. #86 Brian Flowers gave it a good effort to stay with Jimmy Breeding but found himself lacking enough horsepower to get the pass, #21 Jimmy Breeding opened up a nice lead in the final laps of the feature and on to the win.

Twelve IMCA Stock cars chanced the rain to compete tonight. #97 Buck Dempsy and #7 Walter Freeman headed up the field to a fast paced race with few restarts. #7 Walter Freeman took the early lead and was fending off a charge by #8 Dustin Locke and #65 Eric Jarrell. Dustin Locke was fast in the high grove and powered to the front followed by Eric Jarrell, while #20 Cody Kays, #1 Kenneth Imler , #7 Walter Freeman, and #55 Trey Jarrell battled for position. #8 Dustin Locke had the set up and the horses to pull the left front tire off the ground in the corners and hold on to the win!
