ChuckLicata
There's something that's not being explained yet in this scenario.. Fatback came in and gave that whole #18 team a new energy that re-vitalized the team..Bobby not only started placing well but actually started qualifying pretty well.. AND GEEZ--BOBBY IS 6TH IN POINTS RIGHT NOW! Why do you fire a Crew Chief when his driver is 6th in points--and in the driver's seat to make the 10-team playoff (don't give me that Chase for the Championship crap--it's a playoff).. Something definitely does not sit well in this scenario..I don't care who they bring in to replace Fatback, Bobby's team is on the downslide now...unless they transfer Greg Zippadelli (Zippy) over to the #18 team.. Either Fatback did something behind-the-scenes that forced Gibbs to fire him, or they know something about a new crew chief that isn't being explained.. Bottom line..this is a BAD move for the #18 team..
Chuckman
I heard Big John was wearing a green shirt with a #18 on it last Sat. I never saw him wearing the shirt, but it was a rumor I heard.lol
RodneyRodriguez
That's right Chuck, I see that whole part of Gibbs organization (Cup) in limbo.. All of this Stewart stuff would not be happening if the Coach was still hands-on everyday. I remember seeing photos were Joe is almost dragging Tony through the garage area when he was having a fit. Jimmy Makar hopefully will be the guy that can help the 18 and 20 teams on the right track..
wkr77
I read on Jayski that he had an "altercation" with another crew member at Pocono...
daffynmark
I can't see a good crew chief being let go for one altercation. There must be more to it than what has been publicized.
Truck99
I agree with you guys. From a fan's persective, it sure seemed as though Fatback was good for the team. It also looks like the Gibbs organization is willing to put up with a lot of crap since Stewart is still around, so this is definately interesting. tazmachine69
Racing sure is becoming more dramatic, almost like a soap opera. I can picture it now, stayed tuned to CBS after the race for the post race show and immediately following is the new NASCAR soap opera "As the wheels turn" Who will be Labonte's new Crew Cheif? Who is Stewart fighting with now? What happended to Gordon after Brooke? Tune in and find out more Sunday evening 8 central standard time! NO BASHING INTENDED! Just making a funny observation so dont take it personally. Im a Labonte fan and am wondering what the whole deal is with that myself.
Guest The_Greek
Either Fatback did something behind-the-scenes that forced Gibbs to fire him, or they know something about a new crew chief that isn't being explained.. Bottom line..this is a BAD move for the #18 team.. Fatback was on Wind Tunnel last night, he said he was as suprised as anyone that he got released, i agree Chuck there is something to this, someone is lying, starting with McSwain, he has got to have some idea as to why, he said he met with Joe and JD Gibbs and they told him of his release, surely they had to give him some sort of reason, im hoping he will go back to Yates racing. RodneyRodriguez
He and Ricky Rudd got along well, the Woods need a shot in the arm, maybe he'll go there and help turn that ship around.
Jason
Fatback is an idiot. The way he left RYR at the end of 2002 was PATHETIC. He had a long term contract with Yates and with 3 or 4 races to go in the season he left Rudd high and dry. Did a test with Elliott Sadler and HIGHTAILED it to the green team. I am sure RYR is happy now though because they dont have to spend as much money fixing pitcarts that buckled under his weight. Bobby doesn't need him. They will find someone much better. Jason
I think there might be some bad blood between him and Ricky still.
Jason
lol And there is no room for him at Yates racing, Greek. Mike Ford and Todd Parrott are starting to mesh well with their two drivers. Maybe in a few years when they bring Reagan Smith up from the Busch series.
