krusty_rusty Posted July 12, 2004 Report Share Posted July 12, 2004 The only reason i can figure is that ABC/ESPN was left on the outside when it came to the television contract with FOX and NBC/TNT so they're determined not to show highlights unless they really have to or it looks poorly on NASCAR. ABC is and has always been a big benefactor and proponent of USAC/CART/IRL- whatever alphabet soup open-wheel is using w/o bankruptcy. In the 70's and 80's Indianapolis was not even shown live. It was like the Masters golf Tournament. They considered theirselves so powerful and popular that they had the networks in the palm of their hand. After the 20 year battle to rule openwheel racing finally ended up with the IRL on top, Tony George began treating Indy and IRL the same way that the France's have used Nascar and Daytona. Now that their is some blood in the water so to speak (weaker nascar ratings and such) ABC is not going to do anything to pump nascar, only open-wheel. REBELRACER Posted July 12, 2004 Report Share Posted July 12, 2004 WELL NOT JUST ESPN, BUT ANY CHANNEL...............NONE OF THE NEWS STATIONS SHOW ANY RACING HIGHLIGHTS OR RESULTS IN THEIR SPORTSCAST UNLESS THERE IS A FIGHT, OR A REALLY BAD WRECK..........PLUS IT WOULD BE NICE IF AT LEAST THE LOCAL STATIONS (LIKE NEWS 9) WOULD AT LEAST SHOW A LITTLE BIT OF THE LOCAL TRACKS RESULTS OR HIGHLIGHTS.............MAYBE IF THEY SHOWED A LITTLE BIT OF THE LOCAL RACING IT MIGHT REMIND PEOPLE THAT THERE IS A LOCAL RACETRACK AND MAYBE THEY CAN GET SOME PEOPLE IN THE STANDS AND THE DRIVERS PIT ENTRANCE FEE WONT HAVE TO GO TO PAYING THEIR PURSES................JMO Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
