Beddoe Takes Win at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway

 

 

#18 Bruce Beddoe of Robstown, TX took all honors at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway Saturday night by winning the race, setting fast time & new track record with a 13.94, taking over points lead and earning the Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions. #87 Lawrence Mikulencak was 2nd fast with a 14.01 followed by #71 Joey Heinaman with a 14.05 rounding out the top three qualifiers.

 

Beddoe would draw a 6 for the invert putting #23 Jeff Smith on the pole. Jeff Smith would take the lead for the first 2 laps before #25 Larry Smith would make the pass to lead for the next 6 laps with #87 Lawrence Mikulencak following a close 2nd. On lap 10, Mikulencak would take the lead for the next 16 laps.

 

The only caution of the night came when #81 David Machen cut a right front tire going into turn 1 that would collect the leader Mikulencak & 2nd place Larry Smith putting all three out of the race.

 

This would give the lead to #48 Chris Swenson at the green on lap 27. Swenson would lead for 2 laps until Heinaman would take the lead for the next 12 laps. By this time, Beddoe had moved up to a close 2nd behind Heinaman. On lap 42 Beddoe made the pass to take the lead from Heinaman. Beddoe would lead the last 8 laps to take the checkered flag for his 1st win of the 2004 season. Heinaman finished 2nd with Swenson, Jeff Smith & #5 Jerry Schild rounding out the top 5.

 

Beddoe’s strong finish moved him into the points lead by 6 points over Joey Heinaman in 2nd and 25 points over Chris Swenson in 3rd.

 

Congratulations to all the TAMS drivers for putting on an exciting & action packed race despite the low car count this holiday weekend. The next race will be at Thunder Hill Raceway on July 10th 2004.
