Fireworks of all kinds set for Saturday at Thunder Hill Raceway

Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) gives local fans of all ages a chance to experience fireworks a week early this Saturday (July 3) with a full slate of auto and truck racing at the 3/8-mile paved oval in Kyle.

A real, live fireworks show will take place after a full night of racing, which includes appearances by drivers of the AllStar Race Truck Series (ARTS), the Lone Star Legends, the Allison Legacies, the THR Late Models, the A-Line Auto Parts, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the Grand Stocks.

Also starting this week will be the THR Games, a combination of Reality TV meeting The X-Games. Upcoming contests include an eating contest, a Grand Stock race and a “Creepers” race, among others. THR Games participants must be 18 and older, and will be picked from the crowd on the same night as the races. The THR Games will run every Saturday through Aug. 21, with each week’s champion being invited back for the THR Games Championship on Sept. 18. Prizes for the THR Games will be announced shortly. Sponsorship of the THR Games is still available; interested parties should call Chuck Licata at (512) 736-8230.

In a scheduling move, Thunder Hill Raceway announced that the ROMCO Super Late Model Series race that was rained out on June 26 will be re-scheduled for Saturday, July 10. The ROMCO drivers will join the Texas Asphalt Modified Series (TAMS), the MiniCup Series, the THR Late Models, the A-Line Auto Parts, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the Grand Stocks. That night will also be “Budweiser Night at the Races” since the June 26 event was rained out.

Thunder Hill Raceway runs races every Saturday night from March through September. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the racing program starts at 7 p.m. Thunder Hill Raceway is located at exit 210 (Yarrington Road exit) off IH-35 in Kyle, 15 minutes south of Austin and 10 minutes north of San Marcos. Fans can find out more information by calling the race track at (512) 262-1352 or by visiting the track’s web site at www.thunderhillraceway.com.

Just a curiousity...the revamped 7/10 show has a lot more laps than a "regular" night. Along the lines of the "neighbors/96db" deal, is there a limit to how late the program can go?

Jay

Jay,

Obviously, the July 10 show -- with the make-up ROMCO 125-lapper added to an already full program -- has the potential to run late.

At this point there is no mandated limit on how late we can run, but we have been shooting for 10:30 all season long. Sometimes we finish earlier, sometimes later. It is very doubtful, to say the least, that we will finish by then on the 10th.
