debwill
If you're headed to the Thunderhill Raceway this weekend, see notice below regarding the closure of IH-35 in South Austin near Ben White Blvd - from 10P Friday through Saturday morning due to construction activities. Interstate 35 as it runs through Austin has a well-deserved reputation as a bottleneck. And it will get worse over the weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation closes I-35 from Friday night to Sunday to do some construction work on the flyovers connecting the interstate to Texas 71 (Ben White Boulevard). According to TxDOT, it will shut I-35's southbound lanes at 10 p.m. Friday and close off the northbound lanes on Saturday morning. Expect to be redirected onto the service roads. But luckily there's an alternative. To prevent total gridlock through the middle of the city, TxDOT will waive toll fees on Texas 130, Texas 45 Southeast and part of Texas 45 Northeast from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday. The transportation agency hasn't given a specific time for the reopening of the lanes on Sunday night, but avoid the area to avoid getting stuck. The last time I-35 was closed, I spent an hour between the southbound Riverside Drive exit and my office at Congress Avenue and Riverside. Of course, that happens when there are festivals and other downtown events, but still ... highly unpleasant.
