rebelracewriter
Salina Speedway Week 2 Preview by Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. -- With the opening night out of the way, the Salina area is buzzing about the return of an old favorite, the Salina Speedway. This week the action returns for round 2 of 20 on the season. While Danny Morrison Jr. picked up a decisive win in the Belleville Motorsports Modified division, Smokin' Joe Cleveland put on the show of the night as he not only came from the back of the pack to win the B Feature, but also from mid-pack to the top 5 in the A Feature. He'll be looking for the top spot on Friday night along with a host of others. Another full field is expected this week in the premier division of the Speedway. Morrison cruised in the Belleville Motorsports Modified feature, but Scot Granzella found himself in the right place at the right time to capture the opening night win in the Coors Light Stock Car division. Concordia's Dustin Newlin led early but slid off the track giving the win to the 2006 Champion. This week the Coors Light Stock Cars will have the night off due to other events for them in the area. Shane Meeks of Abilene started off on the right foot with the feature win in the Xtreme Motorsports B-Modified division. The drive of the night in the division belonged to Tyler Sutton, who started near the front of the pack, ran up to the top 5, spun out, went to the back, and still managed to come up through the field for a top 5 finish. He'll be one of the favorites this week, along with Meeks and another full and very evenly matched field. Tyler Bradshaw had a great weekend, not only picking up the win in the Auto House Mod Lite A Feature but also on the next night at another track as well. Bradshaw plays a unique role at the Speedway, as not only does he own and drive his car but fields another for Justin Kinderknecht, who also happens to be one of his closest challengers. Another driver not to be counted out is Bennington's Brandon Gray, who made a late charge to second at the end of the race last week. Bradshaw didn't actually get his car to victory lane last week as the rear end broke in turn 2 of the cool down lap, but he'll be looking to change that this week! Mike Traskowsky was also another big mover in week 1. Traskowsky had a flat tire early in the feature and had to pit after spinning to change it. He then methodically picked off each of his competitors one by one to eventually take the top spot and win in the Blind Pig Sports Lounge Hobby Stock main event. The Gilmore brothers, Casey and Clinton, both had great runs in the top 5 along with local long-time favorite GW Fuller. Traskowsky will go for win #2 on the season on Friday night but knows it won't be easy. Originally scheduled to be off this week, the Accurate Electric Front Wheel Compacts have been placed back on the schedule with the removal of the Coors Light Stock Cars. Brandon Lobdell had a rough battle with Garett Hake to take the win while Hake stayed close for second. Minneapolis' Allen Rice is a veteran of the class and showed it with a heat win and a third place finish on night 1. With interest in the division increasing, look for the car counts and excitement in this class to also rise! The pit gates open Friday night at 4:30PM, grandstand gates at 5:30PM, hot laps at 6:30PM, and racing at 7:30PM. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 7-14, and kids 6 & under are FREE. Pit passes are $25. For more information on the Salina Speedway please visit www.racesalinaspeedway.com or call 785-914-5141
