NickHolt
To the rescue: Outlaw Motor Speedway steps up, picks up May 19 USMTS date Muskogee, Oklahoma (May 11, 2011) – Last June, officials at the Boothill Speedway were forced to cancel their scheduled United States Modified Touring Series race the day before the event due to heavy rain and flooding in the Greenwood, La., area. With a faithful fan following they knew they could count on, officials at the Outlaw Motor Speedway near Muskogee, Okla., offered to host the event – a big risk with just 24 hours notice to get the word out to fans and teams. Their efforts paid off as fans rewarded them with a packed house for the second visit of the season by the rugged USMTS road warriors as Ryan Gustin took the win. After hosting a barnburner of an event for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy less than two weeks ago, the folks at “The Outlaw” are at it again. This past weekend, the promoter at the Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee informed USMTS officials that the track was canceling the USMTS event slated for Thursday, May 19, due to financial concerns. Today, Outlaw Motor Speedway manager Danny Womack announced that the Outlaw Motor Speedway, which is located less than 12 miles south of the Thunderbird track, will now play host to the touring USMTS titans on May 19. The Outlaw Motor Speedway welcomed back the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy for the 3rd Annual Creek Nation Casino Spring Fling on Friday night, April 29, with 53 entries checked in at the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval. With three laps to go, Johnny Scott powered his way around Kelly Shryock to capture his fourth career USMTS victory in front of the Outlaw Motor Speedway faithful. “The USMTS shows are some of the biggest events our fans look forward to each year,” said Womack, “We have the best fans in the country here and we just want to give them what they want.” For the May 19, event, spectator gates will open at 5:30 and racing will begin at 8 p.m. Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks, Grand Nationals and 360 Modifieds will also be in action. The Outlaw Motor Speedway is located southwest of Muskogee on I-40 to US 69, then 10 miles north to the Wainwright Exit, then 0.1 mile east. For more information call 918-687-9200 or visit www.outlawmotorspeedway.com online. The show at “The Outlaw” will kick off a four-day, four-race swing through the Day Motor Sports Southwest Region. On Friday, the series makes its debut at the Brill’s Motor Speedway in Meeker, followed by a return to the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend at the Enid Speedway in Enid, Okla., where the regional points champion will be crowned and the next batch of drivers will be qualified for this year’s Hunt for the USMTS National Championship.
