NickHolt
NASCAR Penalizes Kyle Busch And Kevin Harvick for Infractions At Darlington Raceway DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 10, 2011) – NASCAR has penalized NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick as a result of rules infractions committed at last weekend’s event at Darlington Raceway. Busch, driver of the No. 18 car, and Harvick, driver of the No. 29 car, have each been fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation for the next four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship points events until June 15 for violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing – involved in an altercation on pit road after the conclusion of the race). “These penalties are a result of what occurred on pit road after the race was over,” said Kerry Tharp, senior director for communications, competition. “They are about maintaining a safe environment on pit road.”
HiTech
well let em have at it .........the one that should have been nailed was bush ...i didnt see much of anything leading up to thier problem in the pits ..but bumping a car in the pits with out the driver in it could have really hurt someone ..i know someone else look at it differently
BobbyChaffee
I love how it says "Next 4 NASCAR Sprint Cup points races." I guess that doesn't cover Friday's truck race at Dover or more importantly the Million dollar All-Star Race. Grab some pop corn there is going to be a show. I'm all for "have at it boys" but Bush should have been parked for a weekend. On the track, under-green, most anything goes within the parameters of racing. Fighting in the pits, throwing some punches or a wrestling match on the back stretch I'm good with but Bush could have killed someone pretty easily...I actually like Bush but his move was just plain dumb. KISS_Racing
Man, I must be seeing it different? Why was Have-a-wreck mad?!? He got into the left rear of cry baby and got him loose and eventually into the wall. Both of those knuckle heads wreck people just about every week again whats the big deal? Ford27
I dont like cry baby bush but I dont think he should be penalized for trying to avoid a fight. I know it was a bone head move but i also dont think he ment more than to push the car away. I do believe harvick should be parked a couple of races for intentionally causing the sitution and throwing a punch. I also wil add that I like harvick and kyle wimped out. KISS_Racing
I can't believe I fixing to type this to defend cry baby. Go to NASCAR.com and watch the video just before Busch turned Harvick. Harvick got Busch in the left rear. Then when Busch got into the wall Harvick was inside of him and Busch did get into him at that point it was a bump fest. Eventually Harvick got turned. Now, sorry but weather we are racing karts or cars you get into someone and you better plan on them getting back into you. I think Busch getting into Harvick after getting into the wall was UNINTENTIONAL. (Did I just type that?) I'll go back and watch it again maybe I'm wrong? I far a Busch not wanting to fight, well he's a Busch.... Nuff said!

Radical
I think Busch should be parked for a few races. I've told many people I think he's dangerous and will hurt somebody some day. It is a good thing he didn't do it this time. I don't mind the banging when you're side by side, but to intentionally wreck someone and turn him right in front of the field is as stupid and dangerous as they come. Busch will get what's coming to him some day. I just hope I can watch it. You go Harvick!! Make this shrub shake like a leaf.

JamesHigdon
Hrm...I was just assuming everyone knew Busch turned Harvick intentionally, in the post race interview he as much as said he came across the track to put him in the wall. Busch could've hurt or killed someone there. Then he pushed Harvicks car across pit row into the wall with guys walking by...same thing. I like him but he needs to be parked. jwmbishop
I dont like cry baby bush but I dont think he should be penalized for trying to avoid a fight. I do believe harvick should be parked a couple of races for intentionally causing the sitution and throwing a punch. I also wil add that I like harvick and kyle wimped out. I somewhat agree - but what he meant and what the end result was do not have to inter-relate to be deadly. He punted a car that he knew was empty and sent it as an uncontrolled projectile towards pedestrians! His arguement that he was avoiding getting punched carries no weight - he was still netted and wearing a helmet!!! If he is worried that a punch from harvick while strapped into a supported seat wearing a helmet could cause him injury - he does not need to be driving at 200 MPH for way more of the very same reason. I would say what that REALLY makes me think of him - but that would be an insult to my cat. Fact is we had a bully driver (in a wreck em stock class - pony stocks which were almost all pintos) who would climb out of his car and start punching the other guy any time he wrecked. I told my guy (who was built like John Andretti) if you ever get tangled against the wall with him - stay in the car, leave the full face helmet on and taunt him. He did, he did and you could hear the bones in that bully's hand snap from 100 yards away! Of course the following week that meant he had a weapon - his cast - and was promptly arrested when he used it on another driver! Banned for the season - made one race the next year and was banned for life after climbing out and jumping up and down on top of a car crushing the roof (he weighed about 300 lbs)! edited to add - harvick was in the wrong as well. he shoulda waited until the lights went down and had a nice friendly chat with busch behind the tool shed and out of the public eye... of course that AFTER apologising to the entire pack that he was turned in front of .. kinda rile them up a bit and wear busch down some. Hitting a guy strapped in makes ya wonder if he wears pink frillies under the firesuit....! Edited May 11, 2011 by jwmbishop
rollercam
Could have killed someone going a lil over the top??? Next people will say if the wheel comes loose it "could" have come off and killed someone in the grandstands so lets start fining the crew members! Come on this is a dangerous sport from the cutting and grinding it takes to build the cars to the point in which they become un raceable by the drivers even when they hit the wall when they should be in the car steering it! Fighting cussing getting hurt its all part of it, its been like this for years and ya have known it. Sometimes I wish these new soft fans would go away, they are making it worse in my opinion! Fighting cussing getting hurt its all part of it, its been like this for years and ya have known it. Sometimes I wish these new soft fans would go away, they are making it worse in my opinion! , How could the car getting pushed into one of the people walking by not have killed them? Your "slippery slope" argument doesn't follow; we are talking about the difference between a willfully destructive act and an inherent danger of racing. Cars getting pushed out of control down pit-road after the race are not an inherent or expected danger, they are a product of gross-negligence. I am not a “new soft fan”, I have been around racing and usually root for the guy giving everyone else the bumper (I even think John Heil got the short end in the SAS incident years ago), but there has got to be a line in the sand. Guys beating on each other, running into each other on the track (under green or away from safety workers under yellow), yelling at each other, throwing helmets (or fire extinguishers ) at each other or whatever else I am fine with but you cannot allow safety workers, pit road workers or fans to be in danger by the actions of the racers. If one racer hurts or kills another during retribution on the track that’s one (tragic) thing; if that racer hurts or kills a fan, safety worker or pit crew worker that’s another. Get used to it. To re-iterate, I have no specific issue with one driver in his car pushing another in his car down pit road...as long as there isn't a risk of hitting someone walking down pit-road after the race. Good thing I'm not the one making the calls just another guy with an opinion!

Good thing I'm not the one making the calls just another guy with an opinion! I wasnt talking about you specifically. I just remember not too many years ago, one driver turning another car around on pit road during a race on purpose. Not exactly sure which drivers were involved, but turning a car that was under power can kill a crew man just as easy. So can sending a car flying into the catch fence at talledega. Just saying, this stuff happens, Nascar likes the ratings, and untill someone gets killed and sues Nascar for every penny it has, they wont park anyone and this will continue. rollercam
In the racing idustry nothing should suprize you. Expect the things furthest from you imagination and they will probably happen. Its part of what is to be expected and thats what always keeps a man wondering and to some degree interested. No ones talking about the race as much as they are about this inncident, wonder why??? BTW wish Newman would give old Robby Gordon a beat down too. JMO
