THR 2nd groove?

It helped, but not enough cars went up there to put down the required amount of rubber to make it equal to the lower groove. There were several restarts where cars went side-by-side for several laps. But after the upper groove got oiled down during the Thunder Stock feature, it reverted back to a one groove track again.

i use white lighting,a white powder.broom it in by hand or us a sweeper.blow it off after working in.drag it with old tires to work rubber back in and then check it for the slick spots.find slick spots(foot test it or run your hand across the surface.with the hand test, the fingers usually feel what the feet dont.) and hit em with thinner/methanol and a mop.have to be careful on asphalt with thinner, thinner softens the asphalt.on concrete,no problem with thinner.after that, hand mist the area with a hand sprayer and give it a few minutes and go racing.i try to use thinner or methanol on all my cleanups if possible.it's quicker and keeps the compound sticky.

Reasons why second lane went away.......

There were two diffrent engines expire during the event, first one was in the middle of back stretch and in to turn three. That clean up well due to the fact that the driver got off the race track and didnt oil down the second groove. The second one was entering turn 1 and the oil was pretty much in the second lane all the way to the center of the corner.

Like Mr Freeman said there are ways to re prep the track, but honestly the way a drag strip re works their surface takes a long time sometimes hours(I can say this cause my wife and her family drag race, ive seen it first hand!) The diffrence is Drag racing doesnt have the spectators from what ive seen, they can afford to loose an hour or so.

Here is what I suggest-

-Clean up crew needs to use a 1/4 of the drys it they use. Less to have to blow off or sweep up and easier to get cleaned up.

-Dont drag the tire from the dirt on to the track(this drags dirt and rocks on the racing surface)

-Us the blower!!! I know they attempted to but it blew up, what needs to be done to get it fixed?

-As a driver, if you know you have someting leaking and you know your ruining the surface pull of the race track, and I dont mean ride around the top to exit to the pits, pull to the infield.

The main thing to remember is this....... The track prepping is going to go on for the remainder of the season. If you want a second groove then during practice help by running up there. From what I heard and saw Saturday night, the drivers complaining about it not being good were the same one that didnt help run the second lane in practice.

From the looks of it, the 92 street stock, 31 truck, a few late models and modifieds made it work. It takes a whole package to make it work..... GET OUT THERE AND TRY IT!!!!!!

It didn't work so well for the 31 truck on the last restart, not because there wasn't any grip, but because he drove into turn 3 a little hard after I let him back in line, and I got the spot back. But I did use it on the 1st restart of the race, and went from 7th to 3rd, because I chose the outside on the cone deal, and it stuck long enough for me to to take 3rd going into turn 3.....

THR did block off the lower groove during the "unorganized" practice session that preceded the scheduled practice sessions. Only a few teams ventured up into the new groove, although a few did.

I remember my first truck race at houston in 03 or 04 the track had the first two practices of each class run the outside lane and didnt really give you a choice and they had put down traction compund when they did that maybe instead of an "unorganized" practice make the first practice be all up top so you can work the groove in. As long as you dont make it mandatory the ones who dont want to run up there wont and the second groove will never totally come in.

AGREE!!!!! I have seen a few dirt tracks say that if you dont help prep the track(Wheel Packing) the yopu dont get to hot lap...... This can be done here as well.

Add a third session(5 mins) and if your not out there even if you go slow, then you mis the first practice session for your class. But this will have to be inforced becuase we all know racers will try to get around the rules. If everyone wants better racing for yourselves and more importantly for the fans everyone is going to have to help with this.

I vote for not adding a session but making the first ten minute session top lane only. If people complain about the loss of practice maybe they will be there Friday. If people choose not to help then they only get the one session

after a hard night of "go-to-the-back," I wanted to see if i could at least pull off a second place from the outside. oh well it didnt work but it was fun and sure made it exciting for the fans.

looking forward to run the outside again!!!!!

Oh yeah, I understand, I made that choice in Houston because it was fun, and more exciting for the fans, and I was there to win....... Not ride second. But second was nice Saturday after starting 8th, and having a bad finish in Houston.

Probably be back in June....
