rebelracewriter
Salina Speedway Re-opens This Friday Night with Mother's Day Special by Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. -- When the checkered flag flew for the final time on the 2006 season, few knew that they had witnessed the last official event at the Salina Speedway. For 5 years the track, built in 1969, sat dormant but on this upcoming Friday night, May 6, 2011, the Speedway roars back to life! Rodger Peck, a driver who celebrates his 30th year in racing this year, was the last driver to visit Victory Lane at Salina. The Minneapolis driver is one of many expected to attend the re-opening of a track where not only has he had victories but championships as well. He'll look to pick up another win in the Belleville Motorsports Modified division on Friday night. While Peck celebrates 30 years in racing, one upcoming young gun also picked up a win on the final night of competition back in 2006. Beloit's Tyler Sutton won a makeup feature in the Hobby Stock division and since has become a force to be reckoned with in the Xtreme Motor Sports B-Modified division. Also in action will be the Coors Light Stock Cars, The Blind Pig Sports Lounge Hobby Stocks, Auto House Mod Lites, and Accurate Electric Front Wheel Compacts. All of the race fan moms out there will be interested to hear that due to Sunday being Mother's Day every mother who pays for a kid's ticket will get in for half price, only $5! Pit gates will open at 12PM (noon) on Friday for race teams to enter the Speedway early in order to complete pre-tech. Grandstand gates will open at 5:30PM, with hot laps at 6:00PM, and racing at 7:30PM. Admission for opening night will be $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-14, and kids under 6 FREE. The Speedway also offers a Family Pack of tickets for $25 that includes 2 adult and up to 4 kid's tickets. Pit passes are $25. The Speedway has been completely renovated, with only a few items left from the original setup. So much has been done in such a short amount of time, yet promoter Tommy Hendrickson has made it his goal from day one to return racing back to the famed 3/8 mile just a few miles west of Salina. The Speedway would like to welcome everyone back to the place so many have called their home away from home. Some things never change!
