NickHolt
Press Release – For Immediate Release Date: June 21, 2004 Contact: Chase Stapp, Stapp Racing Subject: Championship team off to rocky start for 2004. The 2004 racing season for the champion Stapp Racing team has been filled with highs and lows during the early part of the season. The team has managed to compete in all nine of the races held at Thunder Hill Raceway thus far despite losing two engines during that short time span. The team had two engines to begin the season with in hopes that one primary engine and one backup would be sufficient as in years past. However, the teams’ worst fears were realized when both motors suffered major failures before the season was even halfway complete. “In order to have any hopes of repeating the championship in 2004, we’ve got to make every race”, said crew chief Chase Stapp. When the team saw it’s second motor go up in smoke, it appeared those hopes were gone. However, one of the team’s friends and fellow racers came to the aid of the team and loaned them a motor to get the car running again. “We were able to get the car running in time for the next race”, said Stapp. This quick turn-around enabled the team to maintain their spot in the top 5 of the points race. Despite not finishing two races due to engine failures, the team currently sits in 4th place in the points standings, 23 points out of third place and 91 points out of the lead. Cary Stapp, the driver of the Wright Distributing/Miller Lite, Kaycee Concrete and Construction, and San Roc Signs and Graphics sponsored #99 Street Stock said that the new motor worked very well on its first outing. The team finished a strong 2nd place in both the heat and feature races on June 19th. The team hopes this was the beginning of a new streak of good luck. The #99 car will be on display this Saturday, June 26th, in the Watermelon Thump parade in Luling, TX. The team will then travel from Luling to Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle that afternoon to try to bring home another top 5 finish.
