IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks join weekly shows at Texas Thunder

KILLEEN, Texas (March 4) – After making a pair of appearances at Killeen last season, the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division joins weekly programs at Texas Thunder Speedway full-time in 2011.

“We’ve got a lot of racers who are looking for a class between our front wheel drive Texas twisters and the Stock Cars,” explained promoter David Goode. “Our average car count for the Texas twisters was really good last year. With the way the economy is going, most of them want to move up, but they’re not ready to make the move to a full-blown Stock Car.”

“I expect that most of the Hobby Stock guys who raced here last year will be back,” he added. “They liked the track and they know that this really is a hobby-level division. They’re not going to make any money doing it, but they can race for national and regional points and point fund checks.”

Hobbies will be one of four sanctioned divisions on Saturday night cards at Texas Thunder.

IMCA Modifieds have run regularly at the ¼-mile dirt oval since 1991, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars since 1995 and the Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMods since 2005.

Opening night is March 12. The point season runs through Sept. 24.

Points earned at Texas Thunder figure toward ButlerBuilt South Central Region standings for Modifieds and Stephenville Starter Southern Region standings for the I-Stocks and the Hobbies.
