O’Reilly/NCRA Southern Modifieds Close Out Season With Double at Enid Speedway’s Winter Nationals

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – October 17, 2010 - It will be an event filled weekend of racing coming up as the battle for the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified championship takes center stage this coming Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, October 23-24, 2010 for the 45th Annual Enid Speedway Winter Nationals in Enid, Oklahoma. The two day, two complete point shows of racing will also close out the 2010 season for the series with the battle for championship, and the battle for the top ten in points for that matter, more than likely not being decided until the final checkered flag of the weekend falls Sunday evening.

Dustin Buntin of Wheatland, Oklahoma comes into the final weekend as the series point’s leader despite having yet reach victory lane. Through the previous three events that have been held at the Garfield County Fairgrounds oval, Buntin has finished second twice as well as an eight place finish in the most recent event held at the facility back on September 26th.

Chasing Buntin and on the strength of two feature victories on the season is Edmond’s Todd Decker. He sits just 70 points behind Buntin for the chase of the championship and through the previous three events held at the track, has not finished out of the top five. His finishes have been a victory, third and fourth place.

Still not out of the picture is Enid driver Kevin Snow. The “snowman” currently sits third in the point standings and 230 points out of the lead. A long shot to win the championship? Yes. But there have been stranger occurrences in racing so one can’t rule anything out.

Kevin Dickson of Mannford sits fourth in the point standings and holds a 65 point advantage over Robert Elliott for position. Robert has one feature victory on the season.

Rounding out the top ten in the point standings are include Landon Maddox, Frank Graven, Randy Sallee, Donny McConnell and Ross McCartney. Randy Bohnstedt has an outside shot at cracking the top ten finish in the point standings as he sits just 75 points out.

One of the favorites coming into the weekend has to be Enid driver Travis Johnson. While not a regular on the O’Reilly/NCRA southern modified tour, he has won the past two events held at the speedway in dominating fashion.

Both events will be billed as separate point shows with the standard $500 to win, $100 to start twenty car purse with $50 for all “B” feature starters who do not qualify for the feature finale. There will be the normal $25 entry due at the time of draw.

With the average car count of 36 cars per previous the three events held, that number could rise to over forty for this weekend finale.

It all officially begins on Friday night, October 23rd, with a test and tune for all drivers competing during the weekend of racing, which includes modifieds, street stocks, factory stocks, pure stocks, bombers and the OCRS sprinters – who will see action on Sunday afternoon. There will also be bar b-que for all in attendance and it all takes place from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Then on Saturday night the pit gates open at 2:00 PM with spectator gates and hot laps starting at 4:30 PM. Racing is set for 6:00 PM.

For the Sunday afternoon championship finale gates open at 12:30 PM with racing set for a 2:00 PM start time. The Tulsa based OCRS sprint car series will also competing as will the wild and crazy bus races.

Adult general admission tickets are just $10 for both days while tickets for senior citizens and military are $8.00 and $5.00 for kids.
