‘Jumping June’ begins Saturday night at Thunder Hill Raceway

Thunder Hill Raceway drops the green flag on an eventful month of racing in June this Saturday (June 5) at 7 p.m. at the paved 3/8-mile oval, located at exit 210 (Yarrington Road exit) off IH-35 in Kyle.

Jay Miller, a two-time winner of the Texas League “Executive of the Year” award as General Manager of the Round Rock Express (currently the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros), graces THR with his presence as Grand Marshall for this Saturday night.

“Words can not ‘express’ - no pun intended – how excited we are to have Jay Miller as our Grand Marshall,” said THR Marketing/PR/Media Director Chuck Licata. “Jay is not only one of the most successful executives in minor-league baseball, but he’s a good friend, a great family man and a pillar of the Round Rock community. Jay has been nice enough to share some ideas and thoughts with me about how to make things happen at Thunder Hill. The Round Rock Express are recognized as a ‘model’ franchise in all levels of baseball. It’s an honor to have Jay out at Thunder Hill this Saturday.”

The on-track racing will be very exciting this week, as the AllStar Race Trucks Series and the Lone Star Legends will join THR’s home classes of Late Models, the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the Grand Stocks in running feature races.

After taking the weekend of June 12 off because of races at Texas Motor Speedway, racing returns to Thunder Hill on June 19 with KZEP Radio (102.3 FM) Night at the Races. Several KZEP jocks will run a Celebrity Race at intermission that night in the Grand Stocks cars.

“The great folks at KZEP radio have been instrumental in getting the word out about THR,” Licata stated. “We’ve had new fans come out to THR after hearing our ads on KZEP. Chris Cooley and Rebecca Gutierrez from the KZEP staff have told me they’re going to run some promotions on their station the next two weeks that directly tie in to their night at Thunder Hill Raceway. They’ve also invited our drivers to make appearances at two KZEP remotes scheduled on next Satuday (June 12).”

Also joining in on the fun on June 19 will be Texas State University Head Coach David Bailiff, who will be the Grand Marshall for the night. Bailiff has said several members of his coaching staff plan on attending the races at THR. The Texas Pro Sedans will join THR’s Late Models, as well as the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the Grand Stocks for a full night of racing.

The month concludes with the ROMCO Tornado Touring Series making its second appearance at THR on June 26. The Texas Dwarf Cars association will join the the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the Grand Stocks that night for on-track action.

Two Kyle busineses – Plum Creek Golf Course and 3:16 Pizza – are involved in THR’s Saturday night programs. Plum Creek personnel holds golf clinics and contests – including a Putting Contest – and gives away prizes to their golf course. 3:16 Pizza will give away three (3) large pizza certificates to THR race fans each Saturday night for the next four (4) nights of racing.
