At the age of eleven Paul watched his first race at the Tri-City Speedway in Auburn, Mi. “Mike Eddy won the race and I was hooked, the sounds, the smell, the speed” Schaffer recalls. But it wasn’t until 1999 when he would finally get behind the wheel, driving a 85 Cutlass bomber car at his local dirt track. He would win four races that year.

In 2000 Paul took to the pavement at Berlin Raceway, competing in the Sportsman division. He only made the “A” Feature four times in his first season of pavement racing. His second year saw his first win and he went on to win several more in the following years at Berlin.

Paul decided to go Truck Racing in 2004 where he would win many feature events in the next several years, including his favorite 2007 Winchester Speedway victory.

In 2009 Paul got his first taste of USST racing, attending two National events. After a 4th place finish at Nashville Superspeedway and a 9th at Memphis, Paul decided to start work on a new Truck once he found out there was going to be a USST Great Lakes Series.

“I used everything I have learned to this point to build this truck, for better or for worse it was my truck. This season has been a drivers dream. I had a truck good enough to win every time we pulled into the track. We learned what the truck liked and didn’t like quickly and won 4 features this season. The USST series has given me the opportunity to try new things with the chassis as well as compete against some great drivers. This Championship has been a work in progress for a decade, a lot of grinding and welding has gone into the results we have seen this season.”

Paul picked up victories at Angola Motor Speedway, M-40 Speedway, Springport Motor Speedway and Sandusky Speedway, along with five poles which included track records at Angola and M-40. He also accumulated more points in Qualifying than any other driver in the Great Lakes Series.

“I have had a lot of help from my family. My wife Sally actually got me convinced I could actually drive a race car and not just watch. My daughters Whitney and Jennica who give me a high set of goals on the track and off. My team that treats me like a king on race day, they are top notch performers”

“My sponsors that help power us financially, have been very good to us over the years. The Goodies Factory, AllStar Performance, Lane Automotive, Joe Gibbs Racing Oils, John Culp Auto Salvage and Warrior Signs”

We congratulate Paul and his #33 Team on a job well done this season, and look forward to them defending their Championship in 2011. For more information on the United States Super Trucks please visit www.usstracing.com .
