Duke O’Connor caught the huge 1st-lap SportMod crash at Thunderhill Raceway this past Friday during the “Texas Stock Car Spectacular.”

Amazing stuff, Duke! The crunch of twisting metal is just like you were there...

Completely sorry , I caused it all . I didn't leave the 11 any room on the bottom and got sideways. You don't know how bad it feels to know that you wrecked the field.

hey i finaly get to correct you ..friday night nick ....................

THAT WAS A SCARY WRECK ... BRUCE IT TAKES A BIG MAN TO ADMIT HIS MISTAKE ....I KNOW YOUR FEELING ..I HAVE HAD TO ADMIT IT BEFORE ..BUT ADMITTING IT SHOWS YOUR TRUELY CARE ABOULT OTHER DRIVERS AND THIER EQUIPMENT ..IT S GOOD TO KNOW THERE ARE DRIVERS OUT THERE WHO WONT FIND AN EXCUSE OUTSIDE THIER OWN FAULT .TO POINT THE FINGER AT ..

Bruce, agree with those who commended you taking responsibility for this wreck. It is appreciated by those involved and just so very, very glad no one was injured. Thank God!

Want all drivers to hear this request... DO NOT TRY TO RE-FIRE YOUR ENGINES WHEN YOU'VE BEEN INVOLVED IN OR NEAR A WRECK LIKE THIS!!!

I was in this pile and immediately turned off my engine. Could hear someone trying to re-start their car. Luckily no fuel cells were ruptured, but easily could have been and exploded us all. Every driver should remember this! Understand first instinct is to get back in the race or pits, but it's red flagged anyway. Thank you again Terry, for yelling on the scanner to stop all engines.

great video, as always duke! i didn't get to be there, but i "watched" it with nick (great coverage, sir!)...he did a great job describing it, but nothing like actually seeing it. some really hard hits in there! i'm glad everyone is ok!!

figures...only sportmod race out there that i miss, and THAT happens!

guess i better make sure i attend ALL the races next year, huh?

these kids just can't play nice w/out supervision, can they?

seriously, tho...huge thanks to everyone for coming for the spectacular! it was a great field of cars!

ok after sittin back and lookin at this deal i apprecaite poorboy takin responsibilty BUT that being said on the first start when u tried to get down in front of the 11 didnt the message get thru that thats not gonna work were u hoping that he would back down

on the second restart when a deck piece came off the 17 why wasnt he sent to rear for causing a caution but that comes back to track makin that call so thats ones on them

i know several good cars got tore up me included over someone trying to win it on the first lap and really believe that it was probably going to be really great race that was done before the flag stand

well OK mr.perfect with your nascar drving style you should have missed the wreck.im not defending what bruce did but you could have backed off some, used your brakes, darted to the right.ive seen the same thing happen in races in tida, romco, tsrs, sprint cup nation wide.dont kick a man when hes serving humble pie.

you need to learn what that break pedal is for you look like you wanted to win on the first lap . Your front tire lookes like it was behind the 82's head

look it all starts somewhere. bj34 watch the video again. you will see me (79) get into the back of Lyndon. you will also see Anthony getting in the back of me and jacking my car up. as well as Don getting into anthony. it was one of those things where everybody couldn't get checked up fast enough. i've seen this in the pro mods tsrs and late models before they even get into turn 3 to start the race. it happens. its racing. this is exactly what we do not need when we are trying to build a class at two different tracks. and on a lighter note Don i hope you will be able to get your car together to come down and run with us on the 8th and 9th. we would love to see you come down

Anybody can have an accident for any reason.I know poorboy and he would not wreck anyone on purpose.I have raced with him in minnies and modifieds and was never fearful of running close.

More practice might have helped avoid this deal but theres never enough track time.Speaking for myself I had a similar deal 3 weeks ago. After running asphalt many weeks in a row I went to my dirt track.I have raced hundreds of laps here in many different types of cars. But in my first heat back I lost control and drove straight into the fence and totalled my car.Luckly I start scratch and only I was involved but my car is destroyed.I am in good company however, thats the same place I have seen many cars including late models, super outlaw minnies, and even the Harris house modified crash.Stuff happens and we all need to be ready for it.I only like 2 starting spots, first or last. The middle is too dangerious for me.

It seems Anthony got the worse end.I hope he and everyone else is OK. Good call on the fire hazzard deal.Thats a heads up for sure.

what i meant by this is what we don't need is bickering between the people from two tracks. what i was getting at was we need to work together to build this class up to it's potential

Great Stuff by DUKE !! Everything happens so fast you just don't know what really happened. Thanks to replay you know. Racers are usually to quick to react to something like this. Most of the time it is just a racing thing. It's best to let tempers rest & walk to the pits. Race another day !!!! PS You can't win it on the first lap !!!

i've got all the respect in the world for bruce. this is part of racing. i'm pretty sure he feels bad enough about it without people beating him down over it. things happen , to me to you to anyone that's ever climbed into a car. that's racing, you learn from it and move on.

Good camera work Duke. Amazing that no one got hurt. We had a great car count and hopefully this doesn't discourage future events from being even bigger. Hopeful to see you all again in Corpus so we can try it again.

i told my son before the tps race .....if a wreck is going to happen . it will be the first lap in most cases ..so back off alittle .... he did but still got into another car that was spun in front of him by another car ..he helped the driver of wrecked car load his up .and said he was sorry ..that other driver knew he didnt have anywhere to go ..happend so fast ......... that driver lost a car .or has to rebuilt it ........just one little thing that other driver said ..i guess the driver that spun me .was alittle bit of a hurry ..something of the sort .....and left it at that .................when i wrecked someone i always took the blame .. when someone wrecked me and didnt even come to me with why ..then i was mad at em .and stayed that way for some time ..a symple im sorry it wasnt on purpose .made all the differents ......didnt fix the car ..but made me respect that other driver ..... so i didnt question them again .................when you are bunched up .and most of those cars are equal ..things like this will happen .... the driver pointed out it was his fault ...what in the world will it accomplish .to carry this on........to question him ..wont change one thing from this last race ...... so fix your car .and get back to racen ,, cuz someday you will make the same mistake if you havent already ..

I suggest you read the TSRS rules and then you will know why he was not sent to the rear for the second caution. Ah Heck, I will save you the trouble - If no laps have been completed - no cars are penalized.

And as far as I could see on the third caution it looked like he just got loose and lost it. It's part of racing. Things happen.

Take's a big person to own up to it,but I don't think any apologies are needed.

I am still just glad no one was hurt.
