Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour champion decided Sept. 25 at 34

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Sept. 22) – The last event of the series will determine the champion of the first annual JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds.

All of nine points separate rookie Mike Jergens and veterans Richie Gustin Jr. and Rich Smith heading into the Saturday, Sept. 25 showdown at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. The 24 car main event pays $1,500 to win and a minimum of $175 to start; the top driver in points when the night is over earns a $1,000 share of the series point fund and becomes eligible to qualify for the Harris Auto Racing Race of Champions at the 2011 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

Jergens finished no worse than ninth in the first seven series events of the season. Gustin is one point off the pace and leads all Hawkeye Dirt Tour drivers with three feature wins, the most recent of them last Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Smith has three top five finishes to his credit and goes into the final nine points back.

Pit gates at 34 open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Saturday Hot laps are at 6:15 p.m. with time trials at 7 p.m. and racing to follow. Heat race lineups will be determined by qualifying times.
