NCRA Modified South to Do Battle at Muskogee Fairgrounds Half Mile Saturday!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – September 20, 2010 - Coming up this Saturday night it will be race number eight for the O’Reilly/NCRA modified south division as they make their first ever appearance at the famed fairgrounds half mile oval of Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma, located on the Muskogee Fairgrounds.

Despite having yet reached victory lane thus far in 2010, Mickey Lassiter of Piedmont, Oklahoma will lead a strong contingent of drivers throughout the state of Oklahoma into the evening as he holds a 155 point lead over Tulsa driver Matt French. French, his first season traveling with the series, tuned up for this event by winning the tracks weekly feature race this past Saturday night.

Alan Oliva of Moore currently holds down the third position in the point standings, just 70 points behind French while Tulsa second generation driver Chad Davis and Wellston driver Thomas Tillison, Jr. sit tied for fourth in the point standings, just fifteen points behind Oliva. Both Davis and Tillison, Jr. are the only two drivers in the series top ten to have reached victory lane in 2010 with Davis picking up the victory at Elk Citys I-40 Speedway in Elk City and Tillison, Jr. at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas back on June 11th and 12th respectively.

Holding down the sixth spot in the 2010 point standings is Amarillo driver Alan Sharpensteen while defending series champion Gene Weaver of Amarillo sits seventh in the point standings. However, Weaver developed motor gremlins this past weekend and is done for the season. Lawton driver Jason Hilliard is tied for seventh in the point standings with fellow resident Chris Cole holding down the ninth spot. Rounding out the top ten is Chandlers Colt Goodman. All drivers with the exception of Sharpensteen and Weaver have competed in all seven events that have been held.

The series drivers will head to the tough eastern part of the state to do battle with several of the top modified drivers in that area. Drivers expected include Joe Duvall, Jeran and Randy Frailey, Faustin Whilhite, Joe Wright among others. Over thirty drivers are expected for this $1000 to win, $200 to start twenty car feature event with all drivers competing in the “B” feature but not transferring to the feature finale earning $100. There is a $50 entry fee due at time of draw.

Through the seven events that have been held, six different drivers have reached victory lane in 2010 with only Triston Dycus Alvarado, Texas the only repeat winner, both coming at his home track of Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas. Other drivers having reached victory lane include former three time modified north series champion John Allen (Cowtown), Dusty Robbins (Elk Citys I-40 Speedway), the above mentioned Davis and Tillison, Jr., and Craig Chaffin (Creek County Speedway).

In fact, dating back to the division’s inaugural season last year, ten different drivers have seen victory lane in the twelve races that have been held in the brief history of the series.

Grooved tires are allowed for this event, however, Schrader valves will not be allowed. For more rules information check out the modified south rules on the official website of the series, www.ncraracing.org or call NCRA steward Chris Smith (918) 625-6200.
