rebelracewriter Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 First, third place finishes at Atomic give EQ Wild West Tour crown to DeVilbiss ATOMIC CITY, Idaho (Sept. 17-18) – Zane DeVilbiss turned a two point deficit into a two point advantage to become champion of the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour. DeVilbiss won the Friday feature for IMCA Modifieds and ran third in the Saturday show at Atomic Motor Raceway. Defending champion Justen Yeager had taken the slim point lead over DeVilbiss into the series ending twinbill and finished fourth both nights. Ryan Cotrell bounced back from a Friday DNQ to win his fifth Wild West feature of the year on Saturday. Both events paid $1,000 and were qualifying events for the 2011 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. After starting eighth on opening night, DeVilbiss ended a lengthy run in the second spot by passing Yeager for the lead on the 13th of 30 laps. He wasn’t able to pull away from the field, but moved to the top of the point standings when Ricky Alvarado and then Jerry Bailey got by Yeager. Travis Metz ended in fifth. Alvarado and Bailey both moved up a dozen positions from their original starting spots. Wade Taylor also qualified from the “B” features, advanced 13 places and finished sixth. Taylor and Alvarado drew front row starts for night two. Both watched the 11th starting Cotrell rocket into the lead on just the sixth lap. After drawing the nine pill, DeVilbiss was on Cotrell’s tail the next time around the track. Again a man on the move, Bailey slipped by DeVilbiss on lap 12 and wound up with second place points and pay. Alvarado caught Chase Hansen to break into the top four on lap 24; Yeager drove by Alvarado on the white flag lap. Had there been a tie atop the point standings, the nod would have gone to DeVilbiss, who had four series wins to Yeager’s one. Results Sept. 17 – 1. Zane DeVilbiss, Farmington, N.M.; 2.
