Thunder Stocks headed for shootout at Thunderhill Raceway’s Spectacular event

KYLE, TX (September 20, 2010) – With 11 races already in the books, the Thunder Stock drivers are getting ready for their last race of the 2010 racing season – the Texas Stock Car Spectacular at Thunderhill Raceway (Kyle, TX) on Friday (September 24) and Saturday (September 25).

The season finale promises to showcase some strong challenges as the top drivers battle for the championship title. Two teammates from TBS Racing are among the top title contenders in the Thunder Stock Class - #50 Aaron Brungot (Cedar Park, TX) and #14 Joey Tschoerner (Bartlett, TX). Brungot is going into the “7DwarfsMotel.com 30 presented by Oasis Paradise Spa LLC” Thunder Stock 30-lap feature race at the Spectacular with a narrow six-point lead over Tschoerner.

To make matters a little more interesting, if both drivers end the season with a tie in points, the first tiebreaker will be the number of wins. So far, both drivers are also tied in that area, with four wins each. The second tiebreaker will be the number of laps that were lead throughout the entire season. Tschoerner has a slight advantage over Brungot – leading 58 laps this year over Brungot’s 57 laps. The final tiebreaker will be the number of top-five finishes.

This battle for the title will get even more heated with some additional sponsorship dollars and a new format for the Thunder Stocks. Drivers will start out the weekend with qualifying runs, followed by a Dash for Cash on Friday night (September 24). The top eight qualifiers will be eligible to enter the Dash to earn some extra cash before their feature race on Saturday night (September 25)

The Rookie of the Year title is also up for grabs during the Spectacular. The #5 Thunder Stock driven Nick Cole (Lockhart, TX) currently leads the rookie battle, coming into Saturday’s race with an 87-point lead over #99 Bobby Hansen (Kyle, TX). Cole has turned in some good finishes in the last two races, in spite of damage to his car. Hansen has also clocked in some good finishes, even after having to change out a motor overnight before the September 11 race.

Thunderhill Raceway will be featuring 12 classes of racing over the two-day Spectacular event – including the TSRS Late Models, Pro Modifieds, Pro Trucks, SportMods, TSRS Allison Legacys, Texas Pro Sedans, Dwarf Cars, NasKarts, ASA A-Line Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks, Grand Stocks and Mini Stocks. For the complete schedule, visit the Thunderhill Raceway website at www.thunderhillraceway.com.

On Friday night, the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7P, and qualifying and feature events will immediately follow those ceremonies.

The grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by last-chance qualifying at 4:45P and a Drivers Autograph Session at 5:15P. The opening ceremonies will take place at 6P, followed by eight feature events.

Thunderhill Raceway is a 3/8-mile, D-shaped asphalt oval track that’s located at 24801 IH-35, on the access road just north of San Marcos (TX) near Yarrington Road (Exit #210). Ticket information for this event, etc., may be found on the track website at www.thunderhillraceway.com.
