MEREDITH LEADS ARTS SEASON OF DOUBLES

by Kelly Freeman

After two rainouts in San Antonio and two completed events in Kyle, ARTS (AllStar Race Truck Series) has a weekend with two races in two days at two different tracks in two different states. Bryan Meredith, out of Austin, Texas, looks to capitalize on this weekends events as he hopes to double his points lead.

Bryan Meredith won the last event in the Lone Star Region of ARTS. He is coming off a win at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas, where he started on the pole after an invert of the top qualifiers. This weekend he looks to carve two more marks on the wall as ARTS makes a swing through Altus, Oklahoma, and Wichita Falls, Texas.

On Saturday, May 29th, Oklahoma’s Altus Speedway plays host to ARTS on it’s third mile speedway to kick off the Memorial Day weekend events. “The Action Track” is hosting the Texas vs. Oklahoma Supertruck Shootout that will put ARTS up against USST (United States Super Trucks).

Then Sunday, May 30th, it’s a little drive back to the south to Wichita Falls, Texas. Red River Speedway will hold the second day of events on it’s quarter mile oval as the trucks look to “Kick A Little Asphalt“ as the tracks slogan suggests during the Memorial Day Shootout that will again be a ARTS vs. USST event.

Meredith holds the lead in ARTS’ Lone Star Region by just 8 points over Tyler’s Jon. T. Garrett. Only one point back is Jon Denham from Hutto in third followed by Austin’s Todd McLemore and Jimmy Spillar in 4th and 5th. You have to go to 6th before you find defending ARTS Lone Star Champion Robert Walton from Delvalle, who will surely be a contender for the 2004 title before the season draws to a close.

Probably the most surprising driver in the top 10 is the San Antonio driver, Pancho Mendoza who has had a very nice start after a rough season in 2003. Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Chett Gehrke rides in 8th followed by Keith Patrick from San Antonio Greg Davis from the Dallas area rounds out the top 10 going into the events of Memorial Day weekend.
