Texan Kenny Bumbera Makes 2003 ASA Debut at Houston

 

 

Pendleton, IN (April 1, 2003) – Becoming the next Texan to advance to the ASA Racing Series, Kenny Bumbera of Sealy (TX) makes his 2003 season debut at Houston

Motor Speedway in the Texas 250 on Saturday, April 12. Bumbera will race a partial

ASA schedule in 2003 in preparation for a full assault in 2004 gunning for the

prestigious $50,000 Rookie of the Year Championship.

 

“I didn’t know what to expect when I competed in my first ASA event in 2001 at

Irwindale, but I’m ready for Houston,” said Kenny Bumbera. “We tested once and hope

to go back prior to the race. ASA is a professional series and this year we’ll be

organized and hope to learn a lot about the cars, tracks and competitors of the series

that builds champions.”

 

The 43-year-old Bumbera started his racing career in the dirt stock cars, also spending

time in go-karts and drag cars. The past few seasons he has raced super late models

and competed in the Texas-based ROMCO Super Late Model Series. In 2002, Bumbera

finished seventh in the driver standings, posting eight top-10 finishes in the 13-race

schedule

 

For the first time in the 36-year history of the ASA, the state of Texas will witness

America’s premier short track stock car racing series.

 

“It’s a relatively new track, but I’ve raced there weekly, winning the rookie of the year

title. It will be nice to have some homework on that place with a majority of the ASA

competitors never have raced at Houston. It looks like a miniature Daytona and is the

premier short track in the state of Texas. It went unnoticed for years, until Graham

Baker stepped up and started promoting it heavily. It’s a challenging .375-mile oval that

will provide a great show.”

 

Bumbera will drive the number 00 car for C.E. Racing in 2003 with backing from

Bumbera’s Performance Associates. Kenny is the owner of the 23 bay world-renowned

facility specializing in high performance.

 

“We want to qualify for every race and finish in the top 10. We have high goals at

Houston with all the laps I’ve turned at that track. The plan this season is to gain some

experience that we can apply to our rookie campaign in 2004.”

 

The second event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, April 12 at

Houston Motor Speedway in Houston (TX). The Texas 250 takes the green flag at 8

p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on the SPEED CHANNEL.
