The end of science in America

First off, this is racing related if you have ever used a NASA derived invention while racing or to help your racing ventures, the first two things that come to mind are Velcro and Ball Point pens but much of our fire suit and fire deterrent technologies use NASA pioneered tech as well.

NASA not going to space anymore...

Just thought this was relevant to our little community, kinda makes you want to vote in November.

Funny, Where's all those Obama/Biden decals that adorned so many cars last year?

Cash for Clunkers took em off the road. best thing the O admin has ever done! It cost us car lovers a big hunk of our parts supply - but as we are a dedicated lot we are doing our part in turning the economy around with our (albeit begrudgingly) purcases of the new stuff. Chinese knock offs of 60's and 70's sheet and cast metal products are selling like hot cakes - China, Taiwan (the shipper) and Korea (the ones grinding the old stuff up) LOVE Obama!

Learn a new language everybody. We will need it when we end up the POOREST industrial nation and the looser in 21st century warfare, which will end up being financial instead of physical... As Nose-straw-dude implied - the world as we know it will come to an end.

Bishop, for the first time I must disagree with you on something. I am more optimistic about the future of this country than I have been in several years. -- I feel like the liberals have gone way too far and the silent majority has indeed awoken. If I'm right people are fed up and much needed change is just around the corner.

I agree with you 100%, the Liberals went so far off to the left that the apathetic middle has now become the relativly disgruntled near right. The time has not yet come to fight, the time has however come to fight to get everyone out and voting in November.

Before the election,Glen Beck preached, over and over again, that the best thing to happen to the country would be the electing of a very progressive president. His point was,a strong shift towards progressive socialism would wake up the silent majority to the point where,we won't have another Democrat in office for about thirty years. From what I have seen so far,he has been spot on.

I do hope I AM wrong. I am merely stating the end result of our current direction. Unfortunately it won't be easy to re-steer this course.

Obama learned a good election trick - all he has to do is get folks on welfare to believe a 1000 dollar "rebate" check will be in the mail the week after he's elected and hundreds of thousands of hard working Americans will be beaten at the polls again.

A friend (we'll call him Jim) stopped by the Toyota Dealership yesterday for a look at the new Tacoma.

Just for fun, Jim took it out for a test drive. He wanted to sense that new "feel" before they become extinct...

The salesman (wearing an Obama "change" lapel pin) sat in the passenger seat describing the truck and all its "wonderful" options.

The seats were of particular interest. He explained that the seats directed warm air to your butt in the winter and directed cool air to your butt in the summer heat.

Feeling like messing with his mind, Jim mentioned that this must be a Republican truck.

Looking a bit angry, the salesman asked why Jim thought it was a Republican truck.

Jim explained that if it were a Democrat truck, the seats would blow smoke up your arse year-round.

Jim had to walk back to the dealership.........

CC57, Thanx for the laugh!!! I needed that one this morning. ;) Reminds me of the joke about the small business owner that had to reduce his workforce by 30%, but not really looking forward to having to pick and choose who to let go, he simply walked out in the parking lot and let go of everyone that had an "CHANGE" sticker on their vehicle. i dont see the coutry changing in my lifetime. We as a nation has spent the better part of the last 50 years patting our selves on the back and telling everyone how great we are. All the while throwing out ideals such as common sense, religion, respect, honor, tradition, and the right to be free. We now have to learn a language that is not our own just to survive, appease those from other countries in our own home by adopting there religion. We use what spoils from our own economy to help other countries who would just as soon shoot us in the back. While our bright and shining highly intelligent legal system works its tail off to figure out how to get around the next law, and our mighty military sits in mothballs or on its hands, powerless to do its job for fear of "hurting" someone. We all saw the utter collapse of the mighty Soviet Union, do you think it wont happen here? JMO

Racer61, I don't think what happened to the Soviet Union will happen here for a few reasons. The Soviet Union lacked a fiscally conservative base, which America has and will always have. People in this country are still holding onto a independent, go from the bottom to the top attutide and that is only getting stronger due to the current liberal takeover. Rest assured the current crop of 20 year olds is a much stronger willed, conservative force then the media would lead you to believe. The liberal agenda, to a large degree, has backfired as my generation has become tired of hearing how horrible we are and how guilty we should feel while watching the last 20 years of youths go off and die to keep others free (Kuwait/Iraq, Bosnia, Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq). All you can do is vote and encourage like minded people to do the same; people that don't feel the same as you should know how you feel and understand why you think they are wrong. The yuppies of the 80's are gone, the self-absorbed/entitled youths of the 90's are gone and it's time for something better.

My only problem with elections, is that 99.9% of them are voting in the lesser of two evils. Not usually a "better" candidate. The last election is a prime example. As for the US not being able to follow in the USSR's footsteps, well, you are correct. Alot of people wont see it either, mostly because there heads are stuck in the sand, but not because it "cant" happen. In keeping with the racing theme and not trying to turn this into a political forum...many people believed Nascar would never leave Wilksboro, Rockingham, or Riverside. Many people believed SAS, Longhorn, and tracks all over the country would not close. It can happen. Why go to the races when you can stay at home in the air conditioning and watch it on TV? No heat, rain, noise, drunks or loud obnoxious racefans. Face it, we are becoming a lazy breed. We will do what is easiest. Problem is, not everthing is easy, so the stuff that isnt, just gets pushed aside. And here we are.

Now off my soap box and back to work so I can afford this habbit we love called racin. ;)

"a fiscally conservative base, which America has and will always have."

Umm I'm not sure that's entirely true (or at least not interpretively accurate).

Fiscal conservative would be defined as not having debt exceeding means, saving a set amount of earnings etc. Does the majority of individuals do this? Nope. Nor do we require it of our gov entities. In fact depreciation (the account for set back from earnings to replace assets as they age) is nothing more than journal entries and a tax deduction in America's GAAP (generally acceptable accounting principals). WE are a buy now pay later economy - this current meltdown is specifically because of this - the later part got extended too far out.

No we have the same issues that crippled the Russians financially. All of our debt can be sold and called at any time and there is no reserve to meet this should it happen. And socially? we are not far behind having all the same issues that crippled them. With all the socialistic programs coming our way - It won't take long for mass America to adopt the attitude that if I get 1 steak and 1 potato per day no matter how hard I work, and others who don't work ALSO get the same 1 steak and 1 potato - then why work? Thats what brought the Soviet Union down! People just don't care to work when the Gov dictates what their profit will be. Profit is the absolute best motivator for any endeavor and when that gets limited it takes a ton of energy out of the venture!

Just look at health care "reform" - if I choose not to buy my insurance I will be in a pool (with exactly the same coverage) and will be charged 2000.00 in additional tax. Ummmm... the problem is I am currently paying 575 a month. Do the math!!!!!!! Premiums would have to drop to less than 166 in order to make private ins as cost effective as the socialist insurance - and that ain't gonna happen as all of the currently un-insured flock to Drs for every little sniffle that ails them! And as an employer it will increase my payroll taxes whether I insure my employees or not - and NOT will have less effect to my bottom line! Providing health insurance was also a tool I could use to entice good key people (rather than have them work for someone else - my competition specifically - who does not provide it yet pays the same base wage) - under "reform" thats gone! So there is the double whammy of costing more and reducing competitive edge (which in turn reduces profits). Bottom line will always be that if everybody gets an equal share of the pie regardless of effort, risk or investment - then the pie becomes less valuable. The value of American capitalism and the freedom to make your own fortune is what has made us great. That is going away fast.

Don't kid yourself by looking at the world with rose colored glasses - the damage done before the next election could very well set us on an irreversible path of very unfavorable outcomes.
