Schatz, Clanton Power to Top of LaCrosse ‘Extreme Tough Challenge’ Standings

CONCORD, N.C. - May 31, 2010 - World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz and former World 100 winner and World of Outlaws Late Model Series warrior Shane Clanton powered their way to the top of the LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge championship standings during Memorial Day Weekend action.

Tony Stewart Racing's Schatz held off Kasey Kahne Racing's Joey Saldana on Saturday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event televised nationally on SPEED. One night later at West Virginia Motor Speedway, Clanton battled for the win and was the top finishing World of Outlaws Late Model Series racer, earning five points to pull into a tie with Schatz atop the Extreme Tough Challenge standings.

The Extreme Tough Challenge features 16 overall events - eight per series - where drivers who are competing full-time in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series or the World of Outlaws Late Model Series earn points toward the championship, which will be decided at the World of Outlaws World Finals in November at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The top five finishers no matter the series will share a $15,000 point fund, and the winning driver will receive the Extreme Tough Challenge champion trophy.

"Any time anybody steps up and puts money in our program, you got to take your hat off to them," said Clanton, of Locust Grove, Ga. "For a corporation to want to sponsor us and help us get on the road and do what we do, it's pretty neat. It's pretty cool to have a points scenario with the Sprint Car guys that will come down to the World Finals. Maybe I'll be tied with somebody going into the World Finals and I can win all of it."

"When we go out there we try to win what we can," said Schatz, a four-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion from Fargo, N.D. "The extra incentive is great, we all thrive off of it."

Also, at each Extreme Tough Challenge event, LaCrosse will distribute keepsake posters as well as provide hat and t-shirt giveaways. Fans can get involved at every race through a unique Extreme Tough competition with the chance to win a pair of LaCrosse boots.
