rebelracewriter Posted May 27, 2010 Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 Deery Series tops Memorial Day program at Boone BOONE, Iowa (May 24) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models takes top billing in the traditional Memorial Day special at Boone Speedway. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 31. Hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 5 p.m. The 40-lap main event pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. Pit passes are $25. Completing the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and the local dwarf class. Thirty-three previous series events at Boone have produced 21 different winners. Current point leader Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., is the most recent, with his checkered flag run at last September’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. The defending Memorial Day winner is Josh Most of Red Oak. That victory was his career first on the circuit. A model of consistency thus far in 2010, Guss has a win and has finished no lower than fourth since opening night. Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., has won three of the series’ first six events and is just five points off the pace. Jeff Aikey of Waterloo has won twice this season to boost his career leading total to 54 tour triumphs. The six-time and defending Deery Series champion, Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown and Andy Eckrich of Iowa City round out the top five in points.
