rebelracewriter Posted May 22, 2010 Report Share Posted May 22, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Blake Anderson Racing Stays Hot as Weather Heats Up A full field of 110 cars entered the gates for a beautiful, sunny Friday evening of racing at the Marshalltown Speedway. The track stayed tacky all night and the high side proved to be the fast side around the track by the end of the night. The Mini Sprints joined the program tonight, and put on a great show in their feature event as there was a lot of two and three wide racing for the 2nd and 3rd spots. Brad Comegys picked up the win, and lead the entire 12 lap event. Dan Hennings challenged Comegys for the last five laps of the race, but wasn’t able to make a move for the lead and ended up 2nd. Tim Ottenbacher finished 3rd and Ben Woods rounded out the top 4. The Mod Lite Dwarf Car feature started out with Travis Stensland pacing the field for the first two laps. Mike Kennedy took the lead on lap 3, and led the last 12 laps of the race. Josh May got 2nd, Tim Hennigar finished 3rd and Eric Hendrickson 4th. The yellow flag only flew on lap 7. Heat race winners were Tim Hennigar and Mike Morrill. Kyle Brown stormed out to the early lead, and led the first 4 laps of the main event, with Dylan Book taking the lead on lap 5. Brown reclaimed the lead and led until lap 9. Eric Elliott pulled a slide job on Brown coming off of turn 4, late in the race, to take the lead. Elliott won the feature, and he was followed by Brown in 2nd. Eric Flander finished 3rd, and Cayden Carter finished 4th. Kyle Brown, Neil Follett, Dylan Book and Eric Elliott each won heat races. Nathan Wood ran away from the field to claim his first career win at the Marshalltown Speedway. The yellow would flew on laps 4 and 9, and after each yellow, Wood got away to nearly a straight away lead. While Wood ran away with the win, the racing behind him was side by side to the finish. Trent Murphy ended up 2nd, Dustin Smith 3rd and Tracy Gienger 4th. Tracy Gienger, Steve Meyer and Nathan Wood won heat races tonight. The Modified feature was fast and furious on the cushion. Richie Gustin led the entire 20 lap race with Adam Larson on his tail until the lap 16 caution. Gustin picked up his 2nd win of the season. Luke Wanninger got around Larson after the caution to finish 2nd. Larson finished 3rd, and Denny Rosenberg came home 4th. Heat race winners were Denny Rosenberg, Jon Snyder and Adam Larson. Jeff Gunderson led the Hobby Stock feature from start to finish, and the finish was a wild one. As they came to the checkered flag, Gunderson, Eric Larson and Michael Murphy were three wide. Gunderson won, Larson took 2nd, Murphy 3rd and Devin Smith got 4th. Heat race winners were Devin Smith, Mark Lamer and John Schuring. Make sure to join us Friday May 28th.
