MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. -- The Midwest DIRTcar Late Model Series is back in action this weekend with a return trip to the Minneapolis Raceway in Minneapolis, Kansas and for the first time in 2010. The series gets on track Saturday May 15 for the first of 3 visits during the year.

The feature event will pay $1200 to the winner instead of the usual $1000, courtesy of Speedline Racing Products of Salina, Kansas, and $200 to start. Drivers from more than 200 miles away are also eligible for bonus money courtesy of MidwestDirt.com and can earn no less than $250. Drivers who are 300 miles away or further are eligible for no less than $300 to start.

Gary Gorby and the Collins Racing Team will lead the MDLMS drivers into Minneapolis with the early season points lead, but with a slim lead of 2 points over Cale Gottschalk and 6 over Cale's brother Tyler Gottschalk in the standings.

In the inaugural event at the track in 2009 22 drivers showed up to do battle on the north central Kansas 3/8 mile with the "Iceman" Delbert Smith taking the feature win. The race took place in front of a standing room only crowd in the track's first Late Model event since it opened in 2006.

Grandstand admission for the event is $15 for adults, kids 7-14 are $5, and pit passes are $25. Pit gates open at 4PM, grandstands open at 5PM, hot laps are at 6PM with racing at 7PM.

Also in action with the MDLMS Late Models will be the IMCA Northern SportMods, Mod Lites, and IMCA Sport Compacts.

Kids are encouraged to arrive to the track early for an autograph session featuring the drivers of the MDLMS at 5:30.
