Beloved Friend fighting for life

Recommended Posts

With the signing today of Obamacare, our beloved friend the Constituion is in critical condidtion and fighting for life. It's brother Liberty is in intensive care too. Please pray for our country that these two survive their negligence and recent thrashing to once again become the protectors and defenders they once proudly were.

While the signing of the bill is not directly related to racing, it's provisions will surely impact the way racing events are insured in the future and I am allowing this particular topic to remain.

Please be respectful of others' opinions.

For individual racers the provisions that mandate personal coverage for all are especially troubling. How many of us are able to go out and purchase individual policies that involve a "high risk" category like stock car racing?

And for the tracks, well, there's no telling how this will shake out once the Feds have a look at the present liability insurance and its coverage packages. Time will tell, but you can believe that if the Feds have their way they will shut down racing as being too costly for the "American Public" to bear when someone gets injured at a race. Or if that fails to bring us to our knees, the EPA folks will come in and claim we're killing babies by polluting the air with our racing by products.

With the myriad of fines, taxes and fees levied against business under this plan, and with small business owners to corporate giants already saying they will have to lay off workers in order to be able to afford to keep the doors open, the result will be that sponsorship dollars will dry up along with discretionary income that racers use to be able to fund their race cars.

The pundants say it will be 4-6 years before most of the current health insurance companies go under. That is when the government steps in and takes over the whole industry. At that point, they will start telling us they are out of money and rationing begins.About 2015 or so is when any high risk event will be scrutinized.Seems like if you build a new car right now,you can play with it for a half dozen years or so,then it becomes a bookend.

On a brighter note....have you seen all the states filing lawsuits? There is a movement to have Pelosi removed from office. This is going to be an exciting time for people that follow politics. All that binds Texas to the Union is the use of Federal dollars.Texas also reserves the right to form as many as 10 independant states within the Texas borders. This would give Texas that many more senators and congressman hangin out on the hill.I'm willing to bet Texas is the last state to lose auto racing alltogether. ;):rolleyes:

Does anyone recall what the credit card companies did when notified that in 6 months they weren't going to be able to jack with the rates. They SKYROCKED so they could get all they could! Now, what do you think the health insurance companies are going to to when in 6 months they are going to have to cover everyone.....Anyone? Anyone? Oh yes. RAISE rates as high as they can as quick as they can to get money in a kitty to cover those coming in. What does it do for us? No more Walmart.....Going out to eat...and WORST OF ALL.....NO MORE GOODYEARS AND SUNOCO RACE FUEL!

heard mention if you have health insurance thru work you'd have to pay tax on it at year's end,any truth to it?

Depends on how much the insurance covers. If it is a "cadillac" plan which is very good insurance that covers most things, then the answer is yes. If you have a HMP plan that doesn't cover much then no.

I thought about taking this thread down when it first appeared, but in reality this legislation will impact racing sooner rather than later. I have removed a few of the more heated rants, however, and a couple that that contained profane language in describing political leaders.

I was hoping to keep the discussion as "racing related" as possible, but, obviously, this legislation moves the country further to the left than ever before and grants the government almost unlimited power over the health care industry and each individual's right to make their own their health care decision.

The stock car racing community is generally politically conservative and tends to hold fast to the traditional values this country was founded upon and openly rejects those who would undermine the Constitution of the United States of America, so I expect many of the comments about this legislation and its ramifications will be negative in nature.

Vote next November and lets stop the bleeding. Long time Senators and Representatives like Solomon Ortiz Sr and Jr need to go. They would be more suited to be sackers in a grocery store. Oh I forgot to mention I love racing. Needed that to stay within the racing guidelines. LOL

Just curious...can a racetrack operate without insurance? Can a racer take a chance and race without it?Can fans and racers and workers signing a release keep a track of trouble?

Irony...the progressives failed with prohibition due to the many freedoms this country provided moonshiners. The sport of stock car racing thrived because of that chain of events.

Now that the basis of all socialism around the world has been implimented in this country(gov't controlled health care),it will be alot easier to police the next prohibition law passed by the progressives.

So the left accidentally created a huge form of motorsports, now they will be accidentally tearing it down.

He who giveth,taketh away...

You can easily see the real intent of this new law. One of the provisions is to hire 1600 new IRS agents to insure compliance while at the same time taking the money out of MediCare and requiring states to pick up more of the Medicaid tab (which is an unfunded mandate and against the law). But, who cares about the law.

My congressman is Henry Cuellar; I've never been active in a political campaign other than occassionally donating money, but I can assure you I will donate time and money to the most conservative candidate running against him.
