Friday's Snowball Derby Coverage

I'm sorry to say that I won't be at the track today. I came down with the flu bug (I think) and I'm staying at the hotel so I can hopefully recover enough to resume coverage tomorrow for the Snowflake. What a bummer!

Hope you feel better soon. I had it this past week but feel much better today.

Here's some medical advice: Take two aspirin, go to bed and call me in the morning. That will be $200 please...

or.... if the Health Bill passes: Take two aspirin, go to bed and call me in the morning. No charge to you, but $6,359.17 to the U.S. Taxpayers.

Thanks, Nick. My check is in the mail!

I just read the following on the Speed51 live coverage:

Jake Kruger has just spun his #14 down the fronstretch. He will drive away on his own, but has heavy rear end damage after backing the car into the inside/pit road wall.

I'm sorry to hear this news. It looked like Jake was in good shape to make the starting lineup with the times he was turning yesterday.

On another note, I only thought I was through with coverage yesterday evening. And then I found out that Stan Eastty would be driving the #13 THR Thunder Stock in the Bomber race last night. Stan made the starting lineup with his qualifying time (started about 15th, I think). He survived lots of cautions and ended up in fifth. It was a very long race and really cold in the grandstands, but we stayed to show our support of the only Texas driver in that event. I didn't hear how the post-race technical inspection went (impounded top ten). I heard he gave the tech officials a good laugh when he had the car radio playing while being inspected, and he still had a trailer hitch on the car from the Crash-A-Rama boat race!

I thought I'd share a couple of links if you want to following the Snowball Derby progress.

Here's a link to the live blog that's very similar to the one that Nick uses on Lone Star Speedzone:

And My Laps is a little difficult to navigate right now, so here's a link to the practice and qualifying times:

I just got this text message from Mary Ann:

Bubba (Naumann) broke his nose following the practice wreck. After taking his steering wheel off, he tossed in the dash. It bounced back and hit him in his face.

I just got word from Colleen (Naumann) that Bubba also messed up the front clip on his car. Greg Janes has offered to replace the clip, and Bubba still hopes to qualify for the Snowflake.

I just got a couple more updates. Bubba will not replace his front clip after all - lots of work in very cold (and likely) rainy conditions tonight. I've also heard that Allen Alexander qualified 10th in his #80 Super Stock, so it looks like he will be in the feature race lineup tonight.

I just listened to the Pensacola weather forecast. Rain is likely tonight (90% chance). The low will be 38, with North winds 10-20 mph. It's supposed to clear up in the morning - cold, clear and windy throughout the day.

Stan Eastty shared the following comment regarding his Bomber race last night:

To top it off I got here today to learn I got 4th place because the leader got dq'd for illegal heads. And yeah the restarts were freakin awesome lol
