jracer98
I didn't notice any flashing lights on the faster police car. The folks turning left couldn't "read" the closing speed. What a shame. It's odd that police car 1 is travelling "x" mph and car 2 is going "x PLUS". That said, isn't it all too easy to think "Hey cops, take enough time to be super safe while driving to help 'them' but haul complete ass coming to help 'me' !!!!! Kathy
What a shame. The cops were going back to the station and kids had been drinking. Lives taken and lives ruined.

Crazyhorse
i have many friends in law enforcement. (like saying i'm not racist , i have alot of black friends.. but i gotta a joke for ya.) i think they would agree this officer should be punished. jracer98,,,speeding to the scene of a burglary, home invasion , rape ,etc. etc. is ALOT different than just playing with your buddy in cruiser p586. those people made a left hand turn in a 45 mph zone. how were they suppose to know he was going twice that and then some? this is much more than the guy at mcdonalds abusing his responsibilty and letting his friends eat free. this guy went above and beyond abusing his duties. with no lights or sirens on he is jusy another vehicle traveling down the road. he should face the same penalties you or me would face in this situation. Totally agree. I looked at this in the afternoon on a device that just pulled up the video. I didn't get to read the text until about half an hour ago when I got home from work. When I wrote my comment, I only had the events in the video to draw from. I assumed from the speed of car 2 that they were responding to something. I am saddened to find out the actual circumstances. It's a tragic mistake...horrible judgment....irresponsible....but not an "accident" The bottom line is that human beings, in all professions, make mistakes....and then have to live with the results and the accountability. Neal Rogers
Why are you suprised this does not happen "more often"? Are you refereing to accidents where police are involved? Its unfortunate that lives are ruined and lives are lost. Bad decisions on both parts.

lilmodified
mpo...i don't see this as a mistake in any form or fashion... it was not only complete disregard for the law, it was absolutely ingorant. no matter what you are driving, if you are going THAT fast in a speed-restricted zone, then you obviously don't care about yourself, let alone those around you. it's a shame that this kind of ignorance exists, but unfortunately it does... my heart goes out the the families of those teens... oldfigure8er
WHATS SAD IS THE OFFICER WILL PROBABLY JUST GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST, WHERE IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE TEENAGERS IN THAT POSITION, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO MAKE IT TO JAIL ALIVE (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND IN NO WAY REFLECTS ANYONE ELSES VIEWS ON THIS FORUM)
jracer98
...... THE OFFICER WILL PROBABLY JUST GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST, Well, whatever happens will be in the public record. In the spirit of fairness, let's keep an eye on it, post the actual results and test your theory. Here in Dallas, a police officer got fired yesterday for writing TOO MANY tickets (some of which turned out to be "stats padding" fakes). jracer98
http://www.woai.com/news/local/story/SA-po...vTPdcHluGA.cspx Recently, a couple of AIRLINE PILOTS were arrested for being drunk. Based soley on that statement, are ALL airline pilots drunks? Conversely, are ALL airline pilots Chesley Sullenberger or Al Haynes? Isn't the logical answer to both questions "no"? Lets be fair now, more than one bad decision was made. based on what the camera showed .if the police car was traveling at the speed of the other instead of 90 plus .those two intoxicated teens would still be alive .l..... and how drunk were those two teens .. dont know .just based off of blood text dont mean that driver could not control his own action.s .and dont give me some hog wash .well he was over the legal limit crap ..cuz i know alot of poeple can handle more than that and be nomal drivers ....... wether of not this young person was over the limit wont convence me he should take the load for killing himself and her .in court .i would not give that much wieght at this time ........ NickHolt
Painting law enforcement officers with a big brush takes far less time than painting with a brush that only has a few hairs... Yes, there are bad people in this world. Just like every other profession, bad people make it into their ranks at times. We've all heard of bad doctors, bad lawyers, bad race car drivers. Making negative generalizations about police officers is like saying all Docs are greedy. That all Teachers don't care about their students. That all forum administrators are idiots and deserve to die. Oh, wait, maybe the last one is true, but the others aren't... It just doesn't fly. But Chase and Ed Stapp, Uncle Bob at HMP, D.L. Wilson and a host of other officers we know do not deserve to be painted with the big brush. I know it's old school, but I respect those who's job it is to serve and protect. So do my kids. They call law enforcement officers "officers." Nick
1955chevy33
Thats the problem Nick, the old school is getting left behind. The old ways of doing things and having respect and work ethics, manners and goals are falling by the way side. If you notice even most law enforcement agencies quit putting the old logo " TO PROTECT AND SERVE " on their cruisers. If I were sober, driving late like those teens and maybe even a little tired,I probably wouldnt have seen the police car or realized how fast it was going,ESPECIALLY WITH NO LIGHTS ON OR SIREN. I probably would have made that turn. That could have been me,my family or anyone of us. I do hope the reckless cop gets lots of jail time. We dont see this more because very few have an extra car videoing them or they cover it up. There still are some good officers out there !

speed demon 7
I remember when I was younger, I told a cop that he needed to slow down(bad move on my part), and his response to me was "We enforce the law, we don't have to follow it". Now, saying that, there is a small percentage of cops, very small, that act like idiots, and give the rest of the officers a bad reputation. I have lots of stories of run ins with police from when I was a newspaper photographer, and if you heard the things that I said to cops, and they walked away from me, you would laugh. Saying this, I also tip my hat and say thank you to all of the people in law enforcement for keeping us safe every day!!! NickHolt
The old ways of doing things and having respect and work ethics, manners and goals are falling by the way side. Perhaps values like respect, honor, decency and faith in God are down the drain, but I don't care. We all chose the values we live by and if my values become so outdated that I'm the only one left holding them, I don't care. Let the name calling begin, but please blast me in a PM instead of on the forums. But I chose to believe that many of us in the racing community hang on to those old school values, especially some of the youngsters I see coming up the ranks. And I think a lot of law enforcement officers maintain high standards too. You don't read very much about them. What you read about is when one of them succumbs to the pressure or loses his/her grip. I see them everyday among the fine men and women I work with. The fact is, tragedies like this give cause for cop-haters everywhere to speak their mind and paint us all with the broad brush you mentioned. I've grown used to it. I know the truth because I see it in action every day. My prayers go out to the family of the teens AND to the officer.
