Larry,

I have a dvd of that movie and enjoy it from time to time, but at the time of its release I was very angry at how Nascar was portrayed. A bunch of rich rednecks beating the sh!t out of each other for 500 miles. I think it was great entertainment but would be ashamed if it was used as a representative for stock car racing.

I agree that the sport has changed so much that the concept of racing has been disguised by multicar teams, redesigns, and specialists. It seems that in the day of non aero dynamic bodies, ball caps instead of crew helmets and zero graphics on the tv screen( yes that means NO Digger) that it was more about talent and desire. But somewhere along the way someone discovered that dollars equaled speed and the race was on to see who could spend the most. No pun intended. And here we are. $125,000.00 cars, quarter million dollar rigs, million dollar salaries, physical traineers, wind tunnels, pull down rigs, etc, etc. All thats missing is the racing. :o
