Who will be the King of the Short Track?

The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts will close out the 2009 season with a blockbuster event at the Memphis Motorsports Park - “The O’Reilly’s Auto Parts King’s Ransom 300” Presented by Suncoast Plastering. This Grand Finale of Short Track Racing will be held on November 6th and 7th and is sure to be one of the most memorable events of the season.

The series and track will host the 2nd Annual event “The King’s Ransom 300” This full scale invitational event will name the next ‘King of Short Track.’ Midwest Driver Steve Carlson became 2008 ‘King of Short Track’ at last year’s inaugural event at Memphis.

Ask anyone in the northern half of the United States. They'll surely tell you in their mind who is one of the true kings of short track racing. On a cool November Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park, the rest of the country found out about what the Midwest has long known. It's tough to beat Steve Carlson.

Top teams from every division past and present are likely to throw their hat in this bullring. The King’s Ransom - unlike any other ASALMS event of the season - will be 300 laps. Once the checkered flag drops on lap 300 we will crown the ‘King of Short Track’ for the 2009 season.

The King’s Ransom 300 Presented by Suncoast Plastering will be a televised event, it will air Prime time on December 22, 2009 at 8pm Eastern on Fox Sport Midwest.

We will also crown the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division Champion and Rookie of the year at Memphis. Top Short Track Driver Brian Campbell is the leader in this division with young ‘Drew Brannon’ trailing right behind him in divisional points. Billy Crane is looking to take home the 2009 ‘Rookie of the Year’ title but American Legion Team, Jerick Johnson follows into this event only five points behind.

Two Champions have already been named for the 2009 Season, Drew Brannon in the ASA Late Model Series South Division and Chris Eggleston in the ASA

Late Model Series North Division. We also have two new Rookie for 2009, Austin Kirpatrick in the South Davison and Josh Nelms in the North Division. All these top dogs will compete at the King of Short Track Finale.

Memphis Motorsports Park has established itself as one of the most popular and versatile racing facilities in the country, playing host to more than 200 events a year, including the best that NASCAR and NHRA have to offer. The King’s Ransom is the final asphalt event of the season at Memphis Motorsports Park after the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger ‘On Track for the Cure’ 250 that will be held on October 24th 2009.

The ASA Late Model Series now in it’s 7th year of racing will offer the teams one of the best Season Finales in Short Track Racing. This is a great chance for ASALMS teams to go up against some other series top teams and take the top spot as a late model Champ without division. All late model Champions of the 2009 season no matter what series or division are invited to participate. All Champions that meet the criteria will be gifted with a guaranteed provisional to start the event.

The King’s Ransom will take us all to a higher level; higher stakes, higher purse and most of all the highest title of the season “The King of Short Track Racing”. Whoever wins this event will take the title that spans beyond their domain, the best of the best; Champion of Champion.

The ASALMS will work with all series and tracks to ensure that a wide variety of competitors can come out and compete in an equal playing field. We look forward to making this the number one traditional event that can mark the end of each season.
