VANDERBEEK FINDS VICTORY LANE AGAIN ON FRIDAY AT FEATHERLITE FALL JAMBOREE

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Sept. 25) – One year ago, Zack VanderBeek scored his first win at the Deer Creek Speedway as he dominated Friday night's main event on the second night of the 10th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.

The 25-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa, was the class of the field again at the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval as he captured Friday night's main event on the second night of the 11th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

From start to finish, the “Z-Man” was solid as steel, racing from 13th to 2nd in his heat race to earn the AFCO Pole Award. The feat also gave VanderBeek a nearly insurmountable lead in the season-long AFCO Pole Award standings for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour.

VanderBeek started the 40-lap Sunoco “A” Main from the sixth spot, but it was Ryan Gustin who catapulted from his outside second row starting slot to take the lead at the end of the first lap.

Gustin increased his advantage during the first 10 laps before VanderBeek powered his way into second and began reeling in the leader. By lap 17, VanderBeek was running side by side with Gustin and wrestled the top spot away as the pair completed lap 18.

Meanwhile, defending USMTS National Champion Tim Donlinger was making his way to the front of the pack from his 15th-place starting position. VanderBeek, however, increased his lead over the field to nearly a straight-away before a caution flag on lap 25 erased his advantage.

Although the yellow flag helped VanderBeek eliminate the hazard of thick lapped traffic ahead, the restart allowed Donlinger to close up and edge in front using the high side of the racetrack.

VanderBeek battled back and regained the lead on lap 28. Moments later, the red flag waved when Jason Hughes crashed hard into the turn 1 wall. Hughes was able to walk away unhurt after the hard hit, but his familiar #12 Hughes Chassis suffered extensive damage from the impact.

When the green flag was unfurled again, VanderBeek pulled away from Donlinger and paced the final 12 laps unchallenged to pocket the $4,000 winner's share of the purse.

Gustin was able to slip ahead of Donlinger to score the runner-up finish, while Jon Tesch took fourth to record his fourth straight top-5 finish during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship. Not to be outdone, Corey Dripps also bagged his fourth consecutive top-5 with a fifth-place finish ahead of polesitter Rodney Sanders.

Tommy Myer finished seventh after starting 21st on the 30-car grid and garnered the PBM Performance Products Hard Charger Award in the process. Eighth went to Dereck Ramirez, Thursday night's winner Jason Cummins finished ninth and veteran Terry Phillips completed the first 10 at the checkered flag.

Despite his worst showing of the 'Hunt' with a 20th-place finish, Kelly Shryock moved another step closer to capturing his ninth USMTS National Championship. With his runner-up finish, coupled with Hughes' early exit from Friday night's feature race, Gustin jumped up to second in the points standings as the only remaining driver with a mathematical chance of overtaking Shryock.

Trailing by 58 points (1540 to 1482), Gustin must win and pick up some bonus points to have a realistic shot. Regardless of Gustin's performance, Shryock can clinch the crown by finishing ninth or better in Saturday night's 50-lap Featherlite Fall Jamboree finale.

VanderBeek moved into third with his victory with 1447 markers, while Hughes fell to fourth with 1441. Sanders rounds out the top-5 with 1404 points, followed by Tesch (1374), Donlinger (1360), Myer (1323), Ramirez (1285) and Dripps (1188).

After a runner-up finish on Thursday night, things went downhill for Al Hejna on Friday. The “A-Train” awoke with a nasty case of the flu, then discovered his engine was damaged as well. It was enough to keep the crowd-favorite from seeing a green flag Friday, and dropped him out of the top-10 in points.

THE BIG FINALE ...

Saturday's explosive finale will feature the hottest dirt modified pilots in the nation battling for a spot in the 11th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree main event. A field of 30 cars will start the feature race three cars wide and ten rows deep as drivers battle for a $6,000 top prize and at least $700 just to take the green flag in the 50-lap finale. And, if that wasn’t enough, the top 30 drivers that fail to make the big dance will get a spot in the Non-Qualifiers Race that carries a $2,000 top prize and pays $300 to start.

This year’s Featherlite Fall Jamboree finale will once again be the final event in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Championship. Not only will an 11th Featherlite Fall Jamboree winner emerge on Saturday night, but the crowning of the USMTS National Champion will also occur after Saturday night’s finale.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature winner will earn $1,000, with $80 guaranteed to each starter in the 24-car Carroll's Corn "A" Main.

Fans can begin storming the gates Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and the mud starts flying at 5:00.

Prior to the racing, there is plenty of entertaining events planned. The annual four-person best-ball scramble-style golf tournament has been postponed until Saturday morning at the Root River Country Club. Registration will begin at 8:00 and players will tee-off at 9:00. The golf course is located just three miles south of Spring Valley on US 63.

Meanwhile, breakfast will be served by the Bear Creek Lutheran Church in the hospitality area from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All proceeds benefit the Bear Creek Men’s Club. Open to all … you don’t want to miss this great home-cooked opportunity. After that, sign-up for the bean bag tournament begins at 11:45 a.m. and the tossing starts at 12:00 noon.

Ticket information is available by calling toll-free 877-DCS-RACE. For track or campground info, call 507-346-2342 or email info@deercreekspeedway.com.
